Pretty much sums up my attitude as I have no tactical nous whatsoever (I play games because I like painting model soldiers and constructing battlefields).

Sean Clark

Same here Leman. The result is secondary to me. Which is just as well :D

Winning or losing doesn't matter to me either. As long as I enjoy the game, appreciate the figures and terrain plus roll lots dice I'm happy.

Colonel Kilgore

Well, we are a fine bunch - blessed with the same mediocre generalship skills.

So, who's winning all the games, then?!

Leman (Andy)

My regular opponent - superb tactical nous and can visualise what he wants to happen in his head. It's something I have never been able to master, even after 50 years. I also have the perennial British problem of politeness whereas he will ruthlessly exploit any mistake.

We would have an interesting game I'm sure.

Sean: 'oh please roll that dice again, that was bad luck'

Leman: 'No old chap,  that's the rub of the green. Please, take full advantage of my bad luck'

Sean: 'I couldn't possibly. I surrender'.

One club night (before I had no one to play with...    :(  ) I put on an AK47 game based on the SADF raid on Cassinga.  The SWAPO players held thier own throughout the game, and then the spotted their chance to defeat the SADF Paras, as just like the real battle an amoured force arrived on table just as the Paras where trying to withdraw to the LZ for the helicopter pick up.

So the armour rolled onto the table (just like the real battle) and started shooting... and just like the real battle the SADF received air support (via a random event card) which swooped down and stopped the armour in its tracks! The SWAPO players were a bit cross, the air was blue! The SADF Paras escaped, and SWAPO was a spent force.

A fix was claimed, but it was just the random events playing out like the real battle... spooky!

Just introduced someone else to Square Bashing via Walter Schnaffs. I had to put him right about "from the right to the left" otherwise he would have missed moving/firing many of his troops. That's the kind of thing I have seen ruthlessly exploited. It then is a case of You didn't win, I lost. There is a definite difference between winning because you make the best moves and winning because someone made a mistake with the rules.
