Anybody been to Salute? What was good, what was bad? What excited you? What new releases have grabbed your attention?

I stayed home to look at my new Scots Covenanters for Regiment of Foote. I also ordered Fort Sumter. Not the real one, but the far more preferable Peter Pig model that I've been coveting for years.

I was there, and played a couple of games of TCR with Martin and Nigel.

I had time to see the rest of the show while Martin fought off the hordes queuing to have a go at the game all the cool kids are now playing.

Salute is quite big, with a real mix of hobby stuff going on. Here are some of the other games that caught my eye.

What was not so good: the lighting; the tannoy announcements (booming and largely incomprehensibly). The 19th century pith-helmeted redcoat reenactor who insisted on marching around the place loudly playing his drum. Some of the odours...

Better: the sheer variety of stuff going on, from a historical fencing group (they had a large central area taped off - don't try this at home, children) to a range of demo / participation games of all genres. The wide range of traders - special mentions for an interesting modular lighting / magnifying range from Gloforce.com, as well as to the nice folk at Entoyment and Warbases.

It was busy, but there were wide aisles between stands. Nice to see children of all ages in attendance not obviously bored out of their minds.

The weather was nice too (although I got caught in a hailstorm on my way home).

It was very kind of Martin to invite me to be an honorary Leveller for the day.

And the free goodie bag was nice.

I didn't get one of the golden tickets, but the bag did contain a 28mm mounted Saladin figure (the theme this year was cavalry): a couple of sprues to make up some 12 dwarven armoured figures; a sample "demountable magnet" (no, I don't know either) from PrintableMini.tools; some useful-looking (if you use 32mm bases) magnetic discs to go under 32mm diameter plastic bases from Warmag and a Salute 53 dice, as well as the Salute 53 mug.

Oh - and quick-start rules for a very irreverent-looking "dexterity-based skirmish game" called Space Gits, featuring some rude orcs.

I think Matt has some of the Glolights ? We saw them at Warfare 2024, they look useful?

It's a really good idea to separate magnifier from light, and they look pretty versatile.
