I am still comparing the original B&I with the 2017 version for my return to gaming the SCW after many years.

Reading the v2 Shock Assault rules assets seems powerful and would appreciate if I understand how it works. A (?) Means I am unsure.

So as an asset choice if selected and diced for with a 6 an enemy zone meeting the requirements as a valid target can be assaulted by up to 3 zones worth of an attacking unit (must be from same unit).

This assault is carried out and resolved before any normal activity (?)

The target zone must not be hammered in the case of a shock assault, but in a normal assault it can be (?)

The bases are placed in the assaulted zone  and the attackers are NOT subject to any opportunity fire (?).

The troops in the assaulted zone can fall back rather than fight (?) If they do, do they still get to action as per normal in their turn or have they had their turn (?).

If the assault works and the defenders are driven away, can the assaulters still carry out opportunity fire (?)  The rules do say they count as having completed their action, but thinking if they were subject to a counter assault for example.

Thanks

Hello Nigel

I will try to summarise to see if that is good.

You pick up a handful of bases.
Drop them in as if from the sky into an opponent square.
They either win or die.
If they win, all good  their turn is done.
If they lose then all bases are dead.

Shock assault is usually quite effective because the assaulters do not need to travel and they count as short assault.

Thanks,

That covers it, but last couple of points appreciate to confirm I have it right -

OK

The assaulted troops can fall back. It is not their turn anyway, so they are not affected. In their forthcoming turn they can do as they wish.

The assaulters do not get any opportunity shooting because it is only allowed to the passive player. The shock assaulters are having their turn. They only get to carry out opportunity shooting in the opponent turn.  ie troops wanting opportunity shooting can only have it when it is not their turn.

The main change to keep in mind is that shock assaulters do that action as their whole turn of action. It would not be right for them to have a shock assault action and then have a normal turn as well.

SCW is a great period to fight.
