What it says on the tin. More or less though, anyone got recommendations or preferences for storing and moving the traditional PP 3cm square bases? Normally things are pretty static for me, but the need to shift, and store stacks of figures, is becoming reality and I could use some suggestions.

Leman (Andy)

For storage I use 4 litre Really Useful Boxes.

I also like the 4l Really Useful Boxes.

However, figures can slide / jump abut in them.

I've seen how some put a non-slip sheet in the bottom. This looks to prevent sliding but presumably won't stop the odd base jumping up and causing carnage amongst its fellows.

I line the bottom of my boxes with a self-adhesive magnetic sheet. All my figure bases have thin self-adhesive steel sheet stuck to the bottom. I can literally hold my boxes upside down and the figures stay stuck.

Fingers crossed, but I've had no figure damage in storage or transit since adopting this approach so far.

I also use the 4L  really useful boxes. With a non slip mat in the bottom from Wilkinsons. lay the bases in the box and put a big chunk of bubble wrap on top. This is fine for car travel but may not be good enough if rough handling is imminent.  I used to exclusively use box files.  The problem was that they would slide around if stacked.  The RUB containers come in  a great variety of sizes.  They stack well and are strong!

I make my own storage boxes for figures from cardboard. I have called standard size box that is 18cm by 20cm. This give enough room to comfortably store 20 bases of infantry or cavalry with separators giving four lines of give or five lines of four of course!☺
I make them 4cm high. That way they stack neatly.
I do like really useful boxes and have loads of them for other stuff like scenery, LEGO,  large figures etc. But for 15mm I don't like to use them for reasons people have said.

RUB are very versatile for storing figures and scenery for 15mm, 25mm, and 54mm.
I make inserts from card to keep all the bases separate.
I also use an Ikea plastic crate for larger items and larger armies. These are square with upright sides and again are made to be stackable.
For larger boxes I use the industrial plastic crates O.D. 600 (L) x 400 (B) by various depths. These have lids and again are stackable.
I do not use the collapsing crates as they do not seem very strong or durable.

Like Martin I have used box files but these do slide about. In the box files for the larger figures I use vacuum formed seed trays to keep them separate.

I would greatly recommend the foam trays and bags by 'Figures in comfort' far better product than the blue foam trays you see around. I have about 2 dozen of their cases in various sizes and they do specific trays for the PP bases (30x30, 30x40 and 40x40) in 3 depths to easily accommodate cavalry or pikes.

Stewart uses these all the time and they protect the figures really well.
I have seen them tipped over and the figures don't move at all.

Batko

Well dang, I see everyone's got some experience with a brand I'm not familiar with at all, haha. Might have to give them a peek and the Figures in Comfort. I use filing boxes for terrain, with some inserts made, but had something a little more readily useful in mind for figures. Had some of those old ones Games Workshop put out ages ago from a mate, but those aren't really meant for anything but 28mm scale men.

Thanks a plenty for the suggestions, gentlemen.

Colonel Kilgore

Batko, these seem to be the most commonly-used Really Useful Boxes for PP figures: 4 litre capacity / A4 paper size in plan:

They usefully come in different colours, not all of which seem to be available in any given physical store at any given time!

Don't pay more than £5 each for them in the UK.

I use the 9l ones for taller / bulkier scenery.

They stack well too.

NTM (Nigel)

There are a few tray inserts available for really useful boxes which are good for organising models as well as stopping them sliding around too much.

Batko

Rightyo, rightyo. I'll give an old peek-see for some.
