Leaders are to be worth 2 half bases just like the rank and file. This means that the first leader casualty reduces the full leader base to a half base. A second casualty will remove the leader base entirely.

The method for leader casualties is "for each third hit/kill in a shoot action or fight action causes a 5,6 = dead half base is in fact the leader instead of the casualty."   This is why the casualties need to be totalled before application to the unit.

Associated question.
Should units be able to create a new officer/leader?  OR should they suffer for the rest of the game for losing their original leader?

Historically, I would have thought that the rank and file would be less able to take on an officer's role than in, say, WW2.

So I'd say no - let them suffer :)

Let us try that.
You are tempting me to lose my leaders Simon.  Less reckless charges?

Just a stiffer upper lip, I think Martin   ;)

I think I am going to lose a lot of leaders but that gives opportunities for the next battle  for those wishing to take up command.

Colonel Kilgore

I think that's exactly the way to look at it, Martin.

Just made comment on leaders on the X Post.

I can see leaders bearing the brunt of the fighting, especially for the rash players amongst us 😂

We're sections identified by letter of number during the Sudan? If letter mine will be:

Sgt Atkins
Sgt Bromely
Sgt Cuthbert
Sgt Dale

Lieutenant  James Baskerville will lead the men.

Colonel Kilgore

Will his hound be accompanying your Lieutenant, Sean?

A company of about 100 men is split into 4 sections of about 25 each.
Sections can occasionally be over strength, as recruits etc. arrive from depot.
Sections are 1,2,3,4.

Each section has a leader.
This could be sergeant or junior officer (subaltern).
Within the company there are all sorts of other leaders available (hopefully) to be pressed into service, such as musketry sergeant, company sergeant major etc.
