My small skirmish dutch army force, with its armoured car, has turned up, and it looks great. The catalogue photos don't do the figures and models justice. Looking forward to getting this on the table. Sometime in the near future I must get some early war German opposition, and some more 15mm scenic items painted up. The local area, being in the north, is not big on Amsterdam gabled houses, so I can use some of the Normandy buildings as stand-ins. Should be able to pick up an mdf windmill and lift bridge, both of which featured in the Nieuwolda action.

Somewhere along the line I was asked to provide paint codes for the basic Dutch uniform. After a few goes at experimentation I now have 2 figures fully completed in the paint scheme I shall be following for the rest of my units, except for the small contingent of Marines. Firstly the basic colour is a bit contentious. I have seen samples of actual uniform on YouTube, but they vary from a greenish grey to a blueish grey. I consulted four books I own, three of which showed blue grey and only one a blue/green grey, so I went with blue grey, which will differentiate them sufficiently from my Germans. I now found another problem - which blue grey? I have four different shades of blue grey in my paint collection, so I decided to go with the colour depicted in the Osprey book on Hitler's Blitzkrieg enemies. This worked well, once given a black wash, then highlighted, so here is the actual paint scheme. It is quite quick to paint up Dutch units:

1. Black primer
2. Grey heavy drybrush
3. White light drybrush, but completely cover face and hands
4. Basic uniform - Vallejo Grey Blue 70.943 061 FS35177. This was a newish pot. I have an older pot of the same code, but it is much bluer and too dark for my purposes.
5. Helmet - Val. Green Brown 70.879 114 RAL8000
6. Helmet badge - Val. Bronze 70.998 175 (if you can't be bothered just paint the whole helmet green brown, as this was often done to prevent German snipers using it as a target mark.
7. Buff coloured belting - Val. Buff 70.976 120
8. Leather equipment - Val. Saddle Brown 70.940 138
9. Shoes - any black
10. Gun stock - Val. German Cammo Beige 70.821 103 FS33303, then a wash with Army Painter Strong Tone
11. Flesh - GW Contrast Dark Oak Flesh 030322/4
12. All other metal - Val. Air Gunmetal 71.072 T964CQO

Washes:
1. Over all except helmet - home made magic black wash
2. Helmet - Army Painter Soft Tone

Highlights:
1. Flesh - Val. Basic Skintone 70.815 017
2. Uniform - the original blue grey
3. Base - as your preference, but I use Val. Green Yellow 70.881 112.

Once it is all done finish with your varnish of preference.

Waiting for Flikr to upload my photo. Once done I shall post separately.

This has answered all of my questions Andy. I am most grateful.
Shall I port it over to the MILL? When you have a picture, article done.
Good work.
I can now go to entoyment and get the exact colours.
