There is a section in the new rules for book suggestions. Maybe we could add this to the film chat that's ongoing for inclusion.

I'll start with 2 books by the journalist Tim Butcher. They are both travel books which get to the heart of life in sub Saharan Africa. Not much of I Teresa military wise but great scene setters.

The first, Blood River, sees him following the Congo river on the same journey of the Victorian explorers

Chasing the Devil is about his  journey through Sierra Leone amd Africa's own Killing Fields.

Both are excellent and available on Audible if you wish.

Good point, Sean. I have a bunch of Mike Hoare and other such books that I need to look out.

Osprey have some relevant books too, including one on Technicals, and one on Mercenary soldiers.

Found this book on EBay, average £3.50
I do like eBay's 2nd hand book section, it can save you a packet?

I do like the idea of this, as there are so many books out there ? It can be difficult to know which is the best book to buy ?

It is on audio book too.
I often prefer an audio book because I can work and listen at the same time

If you can find them still, 'Soldiers of Fortune' by Peter MacDonald (Admiral Press 1986), 'Mercenaries' by Tim Ripley (Orbis Publishing 1997) and 'Guerilla Warfare' by Colin Corbet (Orbis Publishing 1986) all offer good dip in and out content with plenty of pictures.

The Ospreys include:
Modern African Wars (1): Rhodesia 1965-80
Modern African Wars (2): Angola and Mozambique 1961-74
Modern African Wars (3): South-West Africa
Modern African Wars (4): The Congo 1960-2002
Modern African Wars (5): The Nigerian-Biafran War 1967-70

There was a recent thread on the AK47 Facebook Group which threw out plenty more recommendations.
