I think it might be worth considering the off table cavalry movement from Mexico but for wheeled vehicles. Or options to arrive on flanks or rear to reflect the chaotic nature of African wars. No defined lines of attack, more of a here, there and anywhere approach.

I think injecting the right amount of variability (it sounds as though Martin has considered this in both force composition and events) and chaos in what will otherwise be a much more streamlined set of mechanics will be the key here, I think.
