DIY Taketaba

Thought I'd experiment making my own Taketaba (bamboo siege shields) using sculpted styrofoam chunks using nothing more than a couple of craft knives and a propelling pencil.
So far so good...

Just the bamboo framework to model behind it out of chopped up cocktail sticks.

Each stand takes about 10 mins to carve and scribe... with a light application of fine sandpaper to round off the piles before scribing.

These would lend themselves nicely to a resin cast with perhaps metal frame supports. More w.i.p. pics to follow soon...

Have you tried using Blue Stuff to make such moulds? I found it pretty easy to work with.

An interesting idea but I have already knocked up 4 and can make more easily enough. I was thinking more that Nigel might try his hand... ;)
