It is the Bovington Tiger day this coming Saturday.
Anyone going along to it?

After that 23/24th September, it is the South West model show. Daleks will be there too.

It is this Saturday Martin. I would have attended if Dave Lanchester was selling books, but he has decided against it this year. Sad, but it seems that the Museum's t's and c's were getting ever more onerous.

I think the tank museum events have gone from casual with army involvement (1968),  to highly professional and commercial (2023). The latter is probably better for most (?).
Bovington has broken the mould on museum success. Also it is more expensive than all those big London museums. A very commercial model that has worked.

The big London museums largely being free, of course  ;)

I had heard from an unknown source (possibly Museum staff) that TankFest finances the Museum's annual running costs. The two Tiger Days are a bonus, while they last.

Indeed Simon.
A very different way to run a museum.

Bovington benefits from the very large number of monied men who like being associated with tanks too.

I like the  London museum funding  in that we all contribute (plus various donations etc) and are not conned into "you can come back as many times as you like" expensive tickets. I often drop into london museums for a 20 minute visit in order to see 1 item.

I agree that free London museums have been a very welcome innovation!
