Hi  ;)

We had a game yesterday : we tried a rule Pierre had in his magic suitcase : "Mr. Linclon's War". None of us have played this rule set before... So it was a complete discovery. This rule set is full of good ideas ; but we need to play more games in order to improve our knowledge of these rules...

Scenario ("McDowell") was written by Pierre for another rule set, but was easily converted to this game. It took place during the Shenandoah Campaign in 1862 ; numerous but unexperienced union troops were to attack a hill in order to wipe "Stonewall" Jackson's army out. Despite their lack of artillery, confederate troops were previously involved in combats ; so they were experienced...

Here are some pictures of the game...

That is a lovely looking game, Xavier.

Well done Pierre on finding this new set of rules :)

Thank you, Simon...  ;)

This set of rules is quite old, but it worthes a look, as there are some really interesting mechanisms. This is not a game to play with squares, as we usually do ; it is designed for a regimental scale game and it proved to be quite fluent and smooth...
Of course, we need to have several games before understanding evey subtilities of these mechanisms. But we will, as we got fun yesterday !!  ;)

The scenario we played involved 2 Union brigades (both had 5 infantry regiments of various sizes) ; a regiment was composed of 5 or 6 bases, depending on the regiment size. Cavalry consisted in 3 bases, and artillery had 4 bases.
Confederate also had 2 brigades, but less regiments, no cavalry and no artillery.

Great looking game as always Xavier. Mr. Lincoln's War was the first set of PP rules I ever bought. I played it frequntly in the 90s and revived it again about 5 years ago, but sadly it was another casualty of my lost wargames box when I moved here.

Thank you, Andy...  ;)

I wondered how old was this rule set... I have an answer, now  ;D ...
I did not know it was a game from the 90s...

Thanks for the lovely pictures Xavier  8)
@Andy : I'm afraid you mix Lincoln's War, which is an old RFCM game inspired by Square Bashing , and Mr Lincoln's War, the tactical game we played yesterday, which is not a grided rules system, and was written by Stephen Phenow and Terry Gore.

Lovely paint  work there chaps.

Mr Lincoln's war (Steve Phenow) came out just after Lincoln's war (RFCM) but the author did not know about the PP Lincoln's war.
They do not share any common features so all is well.
I don't think either set is well known now??
