I agree Sean, but this might be included as a house rule for those that know the game. Like Jerry said roll a 4,5,6 if the Critical is one or two points in, and you sail through that first Critical hit point. Especially if the ship is a fully fighting ship. Now the North Carolina that I ve just done recently if it's up to 2 points from the Critical I would not allow, as the wood construction was failing, but I ve yet to look at her Stats.
I will probably mark this on the sheets as I re do these over the next few months. Along with the pictures of each ship on the reverse side, to help people identify the ship they are using.
I will go through all of the Ships stats one by one to make sure the numbers are good etc, any defects that the ship might have would be a possible criteria for not allowing that one time saving roll.
