I cant remember when the early FWW German range was resculpted. I had not long finished painting my own early war German army using the old sculpts so didnt look too closely.

However  I've just rebased the army, necessitating the need for a few more figures for half bases, and whilst I was at it I thought I'll  add a couple of units.

Now, I can see how nice the new sculpts are thanks to the pictures on the website. But I have to say, in the flesh they are absolutely  beautiful sculpts. Lots of variety, crisp casts that really accept paint well.

I know its a bit late, but well done Martin!

The cavalry in particular are beautifully animated. I would really love some mounted and dismounted hussars.

Oh yes, hussars would be lovely.

Ive thoroughly enjoyed revisiting my early war collection and have now added an Indian battalion to my BEF. Ive also found enough figures to add a second unit of Dragoons to my French.

A German WW1 hussars pack with braided "Attila" jackets would be great ; moreover, as 1914 hussars uniforms were very similar, a simple headswap would allow to convert those German hussars in Russian, Austrian, and even French hussars...

Or maybe start with French, and then convert to German, Russian and Austrian?  ;D

French Hussars in 1914 did not have braided jackets. Both they and the Chasseurs a Cheval wore unbraided light blue jackets. They can be made by swapping the dragoon head for a Belgian shako head.

Colonel Kilgore

Thanks Andy - as you can tell, I'd not looked sufficiently into this one!

Sorry Andy, but this is theory. In practice, the braided jackets were widely used until end of stocks, and still worn by French hussars during the 1914 campaign.

Bugger. The latest I have seen information for the French braided jacket is 1890. However, would it not be possible to make this figure from a German hussar with a Belgian shako head?
