Well that went well.
We played
Fulford gate, Stamford bridge and Hastings in that order.

English won the first two and Normans won the last one.

A good bunch of players  and a good event.

Thanks everyone for a good day everyone.  Especial thanks to Martin, who was umpire and Master of Ceremonies and never got to throw a dice in anger!

Glad to hear that all went well on the day, and that you saw no dice-throwing tantrums  ;D

Are you planning to include the scenarios for these three battles in the finally published ruleset, Martin?

Great day and thanks to Richard, Weymouth Mike, Alan the author and martin for the day.
To add a little flesh to the bones....
Fulford. Richard and I had the English. The Vikings draw up their battle line on their left and centre. The English were largely levy troops so potentially very fragile. So we held the centre and right with the poorer troops and tried to outflank the Vikings on our left. The dice determined otherwise and we ran out of time before a single assault took place. The outcome was a minuscule win for the English by 12 points to 5. Not so much a battle as handbags!
Stamford Bridge was a different ball game. The English army now contained no levy. Just veteran huscarls, fyrd and local fyrd. Harold G and Morcar aggressively assaulted the Viking centre and smashed straight away. The result was historical. Harald H and the rest of the Vikings were completely routed. A massive win for the English. Martin said it was off the scale. Credit to Mike and Alan though as they bounced back at Hastings.
Hastings saw the English lined up on Senlac Hill. The Normans concentrated their bow fir on the English right, who responded by assaulting their tormentors with some success. The line held until near the end when the Norman massed cavalry punched through the English centre, resulting in a moderate win for them.
So overall a better day for the English, but they managed to lose the final battle. The rest, as they say, is history.

Sounds a fun time. Shame I had to assist the wife at a craft fair. Her erstwhile assistant had to cry off due to getting covid. Not something we wanted to be near as away on our next holiday in 2 weeks.

Glad it went well though.

Colonel Kilgore

Nice to see history largely repeating itself!

All super fun

Maybe we can do something similar again?
I believe that simplicity of concept contributed toward the success.
