Viking weapons

Here are some pictures of vikings axes etc from the longships period.
Notice how the axes are quite refined and not juts bludgeons.

Good photos, Martin - I spotted you'd added one to the PP website.

Reading into this period recently, I discovered how sophisticated the manufacture of axes and other weapons were e.g. the blade is often made separately from the remainder of the axe head, and subsequently joined on.

Looking forward to seeing some Carolingian axes soon

Given the quality of Scandinavian wood craftsmanship of the Viking period it is hardly surprising their axes were pretty much unsurpassed...
