Bob, has pointed out some section on p44 on MGs. It mentions that MG are a type of base  that ....."All hits that are not saved become casualties.  Each casualty on infantry, cavalry and MG units is (are) recorded by removing a half base from the unit"

it then goes on to mention that only A/C , Art get a damaged marker...

but in the shooting/assault section it mentions 'damaged' MG, which is how we have always played it.

SO ... question is , are like ART, 1 hit = damaged, 2nd hit destroyed, or are the like infantry. Do you have 1/2 base MG , or just a full base of damaged MG (if that makes a difference)

on p6 it does say that MGs get a damaged marker on the first hit...

Hi Simon,
MG's and art have only two hits either from shooting or fighting.
They are like any other base, remember each infantry base is only two hits as well but 4 bases represent a battalion and a MG is a company and artillery is a battery.
Hope that's as clear as mud

SimonC

it is, and thats how we've always played.. but it is a bit contradictory in the rules.

I guess I'm asking if there is some subtle nuance that I'm missing here  - but I don't think there is

Sean Clark

I don't  think there is either Simon. Just different wording. I've always played it like you describe.

It is difficult to remove a base and replace it with a half base for machine guns.  So IMHO the way to go is having a 'Damaged' marker for the HGs.

BobaJob

Re-reading the rules - p50 - Damaged (markers).  This is used when a vehicle, gun or MG cannot be split in half.  If the model can then a half base is used.  So everybody was right!!

For my MG's I remove the full base and replace with 1/2 base with just a MG on it no team
For Artillery I just place a damaged marker.

SimonC

there is a bit of a difference between these two methods when it comes to scoring. I don't have my rules to hand, so cannot confirm the wording. But when an infantry base is removed and replaced by 1/2 a base, you score the whole base as lost.  So similarly for a MG if you replace with 1/2 a base you would score ... but if you place a damaged marker then only score the base on the 2nd wound

crux is, what does it say about scoring on a damaged MG?

Stewart 46A

The way we play is to score the bases removed off the table, so if the MG, gun or infantry base is removed off table from damage or destroyed it counts as points.
