Calvados. An apple liquor I think it is.

What ever, Les has a neighbour who supplies him with some which he then brings over to the a Weymouth Weekender. It's a bit of a tradition to have a small amount on the Friday and Saturday night after a long day's gaming.

Yes, its a brandy-like drink made from apples in the North of France. And in Somerset, but they have to call it cider brandy there.

Can it be used as a wash on figures

I think the Calva that you and Mike have is around 30 to 40 years old.  It was made by a cousin of our elderly neighbour.
We were given a small bottle that was 60 years old. (Did not last long)

Calvados often nicknamed Calva, is a brandy from Normandy in France, typically made from apples.

The fruit is harvested and pressed into a juice that is fermented into a dry cider. It is then distilled into eau de vie. After two years of aging in oak casks, it can be sold as calvados. The longer it is aged, the smoother the drink becomes. Usually, the maturation goes on for several years.

If you are going to use it as 'paint stripper' Simon you have very rich tastes.

The price for a bottle would be from 30 euros up to 150 euros if you can find any in the shop.

Big Mike

I can attest to the restorative qualities of Calva ever since we visited Les at his home in Normandy. I have now only a small but valuable quantity left and that is being kept to share at the Weymouth Wargame Weekend in November. It may not guarantee a constant roll of 6 scores but after a few drinks of Calva you won't care.
Les has a great story to relate about how a bottle of Calva helped save lives in a fire-fight in 1944 around his home.
Salut!
Mike

Aah, Calvados! thought you might have been confusing it with cava - certainly confused me (although not difficult these days since having Covid).
