Thursday night saw Ade come over and we played the Guilford Courthouse scenario from Washingtons Army.

The British won, sweeping away the American Militia as happened historically. If it wasn't for high rolls on the countdown, I suspect the Americans would have been swept from the field. There Continental regiments were essentially all that was left at the end of the game, with the British still eager for the fight.

Fairly historical outcome, though I suspect our Cornwallis would have felt happier than he did in real life.

One of my favourite battles ever since I read about it in Battle Notes For Wargamer's
Looks great too
And a British win

Great looking game table.  That's what wargaming is all about.

Excellent Sean
Good to see that lovely scenery.
The problem for the two sides is that the vast expanses of country just swallow up their armies.
Making a run for it was always easier due to this vastness.

A great period to game.

Well done Cornwallis.
Mel Gibson would have slaughtered him though.

A very nice looking game. I would love to do AWI at some point, but need to clear some other projects first. .

Looks great Sean. Hopefully we'll see a AWI revival and I can get my armies to the table.

I have been to the battlefield and it is bit of a mess.
It was privately purchased on the basis of the "then knowledge".
As can be guessed it is slightly in the wrong place.  A bit like Bosworth.
The British start lien is actually  500 yards down the main road.
The successive lines have been re interpreted now too.
Some of the dips have been filled in for roads in order to make the drive easier.
The open fields are now mainly wooded.

This might sound all very bad but the battlefield can still be interpreted with a little care and a good book.
The gift shop and museum are very good indeed.

Brandywine was in bit of a mess too.
I think the US battlefields are usually underfunded, except for Gettysburg.

I'd love to get out to Guilford Courthouse at some point.

The American Battlefield Trust YouTube channel is excellent; and this video is no exception.

In hindsight, I got the British deployment a bit wrong - they should have closer to the road and perhaps restricted a bit more to follow a line straight ahead of their deployment.

With not having played some of these games for so long it is easy to forget the little details and even which ruleset is being played.

Be great to play a game of WA at WWW with you Sean!!

Les,

It would be no trouble to put the figures in the car.
