Here are some pictures of a full scale reconstruction of Albemarle interior.

Notice that the command platform is just that, a platform.  The captain et al would have half their height within the case mate and half within the viewing structure. All very hazardous.

Notice how little room there is to deploy the gun . The sloping sides get in the way too.

Regardless of the nationality the space-saving ethos of all navies seems to have been a universal trait. It is not surprising it found its way into the first 'bijou' landship designs...
