US Vietnam heads

So, since everyone else is having some joy in convincing Martin to make their favourite heads, is there any more support in favour of US Vietnam-era infantry heads?

These could be used for both:

a) converting other troops (e.g. AK47 professional special forces; LRRPs) to helmeted US figures
b) ringing the changes within the existing helmeted infantry (both changing the facing of the heads and swapping around the variety that are already sculpted)

There is some great detail (e.g. shotgun cartridges; oil cans) added to some existing figures' heads, but I've started carving them off in the interest of variety. In practice, troops seem to have festooned their helmets with a variety of clutter that could look really good distributed randomly within a unit?

I will do some Vietnam heads.  The new bandana head and bandaged heads should be useful?

Thanks Martin: some US Vietnam heads with a variety of helmet adornments would be fantastic.

And yes, the bandana and bandaged heads should be great for that period too: I've got them both for that very purpose, but need to find some time for that cutting and drilling...

There is a problem with the bandana heads which are very small compared to other heads, other than perhaps the Viking heads. They will work with the existing and relatively small Vietnam figures but they do not work very well with the AK range where I was trying to use them with the  Israelis with M16s to make LRRPs (the Israelis have a lot of water bottles and equipment which make them better for special forces). Yes, we need more new Vietnam heads but they need to be larger than the bandanas.

Also any hope for baseball caps to allow us to modify various figures as hardened militia or civilian contractors for Iraq?

Colonel Kilgore

Andoreth,

That's a good thought about the Israelis with M16s to make LRRPs.

Have you also looked at #173 [Professional Special Forces] in the AK47 for similar purposes? With the promised US helmets, I'm thinking I could mix them in as normal grunts, or perhaps special forces - either with their existing heads or with bush hats.

Regarding basebal caps, there is #16 "African modern cap" in the heads range. I don't have these, and there is unfortunately no photo on the PP site, but they may fit the bill?

Andoreth

The Israelis have a couple of useful sets for head swaps, as well as those armed with M16s  they have a set with AK47s which I have used with Russian helmet swaps as Iraqis. Sadly the African cap is the fore and aft cap which is fine if you want, as I did, to make Portuguese using any bodies with SLRs of G3s, but they are not suitable to add variety to the hardened militia types.

Colonel Kilgore

Andoreth,

OK got it, thanks.

It looks like Martin's workbench is filling up with ideas, then!

There are probably very many body candidates for "contractors" [also Zombie Apocalypse survivors, picking up on another thread here?] if a baseball hatted-head were available...

US baseball cap out next week!  Hemispherical round top, big  peak

Excellent!

And did I mention US Vietnam helmeted-heads (with a variety of accoutrements)...?

Andoreth

Great news on the baseball caps. Does that mean they will be available for Warfare in Reading?

Happy with all the different heads coming out, should be very useful, now must learn to head swap....

emphatz, there are already a couple of Forum threads about how folk approach this seemingly tricky topic [it's not, but I too had held off for years] here:

I hope this gives you the confidence to take the plunge!
