Here is a very interesting late war Union ship.
Small but armoured.
It carried a spar with a bomb/torpedo on the end.
The crew could raise or lower it by 3 feet in order to lower the profile.

Would be a good little ship to add to the HI range.

I like it... ;D spar torpedo attack? 16 dice attack no saves... the spar torpedo can be replaced after use... two turns to reload...?

Special rule: lowered silhouette; this ship can lower most of it's hull under the waterline to make it harder to hit by using pumps and ballast tanks. When the ship does this it is always considered a narrow target (-1 attack dice) and can only move one hex per turn. If it's not "submerged" it moves as normal.

I'll work some stats out later on.... CKlank

New Amsterdam raises its head once again. Spuyten Duyvil is old Dutch - pronounced Spouten Doufil and means Squirting Devil (modern Dutch Spuiten Duivel - same pronunciation though). Pretty aptly named for the job it did.

sorry for the delay, life and stuff...

A little research has shown while it never was used as designed in combat on another ship, it was used to good effect for breaching and clearing submerged Confederate obstacles to clear a path through them... Humm that would be interesting.

Basic HI game stats kick around:

Save as Ironclad

hit pints: 17 (5) ... weight comes to 15, I added 2 extra points for low water profile?

speed: Normal

draft: (S) shallow

Weapon: reloadable spar torpedo X1, one turn to reload. See rules: basic attack factor 14D6 (ram ability is 200 for an ironclad so i'll stick to that for now) Can remove water obstacle, torpedo mines or sunken wrecks from a hex on a 6+ (2D6 roll) Add +2 to the dice roll if attacking a mine/torpedo hex. Ship does not suffer penalties for moving into that hex if attack is successful and removes the obstacle.

Special ability rule: lowered silhouette; this ship can lower most of it's hull under the waterline to make it harder to hit by using pumps and ballast tanks. When the ship does this it is always considered a narrow target (-1 attack dice) no matter what angle to the attacker and can only move one hex per turn. If it's not "submerged" it moves as normal. It takes any move order to raise or lower the silhouette and can not move at "fast" speed that turn even is the order card is for move fast.

Cost: 625 points
