Assuming their screen persona.
Which TV detective would make the most effective WOTR general.

i.e which personality trait(s) would help them be successful

Some suggestions
Morse, Columbo, Cannon, Hastings, Holmes, Rebus, Kojak, Dirty Harry, Vera, Doyle,Givens

John Watson

I can see Clint Eastwood as Edward IV. " Come on peasant. Maketh thou my day!"
John

Wardy64

Morse/Endeavor - likes an ale and thinks strategically.

Dave

Colonel Kilgore

I could see Edmund Blackadder hiding among the French pikemen [controversial?] at Bosworth, while others do his dirty work on Richard (I accept that Blackadder is not a well-known detective, though, so I may be taking this all off-piste a little - it always pays to read the exam question properly...).

So what about Bergerac - hob-nobbing with the rich and famous, a vaguely French connection (albeit not Popeye Doyle), looks a bit flash in his shiny carriage but always gets his man in the end?

Traits being:

  • well connected
  • deceptively unassuming
  • high level of stamina

Simon

Leman (Andy)

Got to be Dirty Harry. The most enduring trait for both winners and losers in that period appears to be "utter, merciless bastard." Make my day disarmed noble!

Moggy

At least it wasn't an "I'll be back" moment or another or something in a dodgy Russel Crowe accent

Derek

I would think Columbo.
Because the opposition always under estimate him.
I do accept that he would be a very scruffy general.
He does always/defer refer to his wife, which is good.

Does this mean you are going as the Pink Panther then Martin.

Colonel Kilgore

I shall wear a pink PP shirt on the day and a hat which is on its way from a medieval costumier.
