Lost Army

Is it just me ....or do others have the same problem.

I sometimes buy a few figures to make up a single unit or maybe two to add to an existing army or to allow me to use army A as army B by swapping in the new unit(s) for others. So, for example, I might buy two or three packs of ECW pike, musket and command so that I can alter the balance of my ECW early Royalist army.
The trouble is that sometimes I buy something more obscure, start painting the figures, and then get distracted or bored, and move on to some other project. Months later I return to the original, half painted, troops and wonder which army I bought them for. Currently I have 15 Cuman horse archer/javelin which I have returned to and I cannot for the life of me remember why I bought them.
Am I alone in this or do others have this wargamers obliette?

I lose armies constantly.
The big danger is using some of the units for another game and then those units get permanently lost from the army...

I've learned the hard way that the "I've started so I'll finish" rule has to be obeyed...

Most of us do not have such a large stash in the loft as you do Martin.

You are right John, I think a lot us have and will continue to do that.
Worst is when you have started them, come back to them later, can't find out why you have them. Then apportion to something else ! Then realise why you first bought them and then have to start the process all over again !

I have literally lost armies as a result of this move. Hoping I've put some in boxes not listed as wargaming.

A chunk of my armies were out of my sight for three years (a long and dull story), but they have just been delivered back here .  :)

So that's 6 regiments of foot, 2 commanded shot, 6 harquebusiers and 2 cuirassiers joining the painting pile.

Very happy to have them back, thought they were gone for good.

I found a "black box" ACW Confederate army, plus extras, still in the box when sorting through my stash earlier this year. I'd forgotten about it, and can't remember which year I bought it in.

Another project I can do with minimal outlay.

Best wishes,

I have loads of projects...I state to the Mrs these are retirement projects. Buy now when you can afford the toys and paint when retired. We will see if that ever happens of course

Colonel Kilgore

I like that "buy now while I can afford it" strategy - I think there's inspiration for us all there!

It is very easy to buy what you like and not what you need but I have an agreement with my boss (wife) , Whilest we are working I can buy what I need as long as I paint it so I have one platoon of Volksstrum to paint before buying any New Mexican troops.

I do not have a metal mountain to paint.

My problem with little or no gaming it's geting the motivation to paint.

My 'stash' is Ben's legacy.

Your lucky Dave you have a lad that likes Wargames.
Sometimes it's not the case of "lost" armies but maybe more " out of sight, out of mind" ? Unless you have moved ? Then it could be lost ?
How many of us have bought, or started buying something, get them prepared, then something else comes up and you put them in a box, to come back to later ! (All those good intentions) Then that box slowly but surely gets buried under whatever you have in your workspace? You know the rest?
I know my loft has some hidden treasures that I am slowly working thru ? Now that I have the other cabin(part of) to use as storage space, and have "vowed" to myself and the boss (the wife) to keep it to "so many boxes only!"
