Thanks Simon
The pictures are excellent. :)

Station 1 is a very good generic station in my opinion.
It is small enough not to dominate the town.
It would do for Europe,  in both world wars. Plus of course hotter climes.
i suggest it needs a vehicle next to it. Taxi, cart or charabang?

You get buildings from broken up collections. That's what I did about 4 years ago. Like was said before sometimes you get them as Job lots. If there is not too much interest for some good bargains.
Hint I always look up what the listed price is on Amazon for those type of buildings, take away the P&P, round it down to the nearest pound, allow for condition ? then you have your maximum bid price.
Why pay more than what it's worth brand new straight out of the box ?
If you get to buy a couple of times off the same seller, they will then sell you at a reduced price the buildings that are damaged etc for mere pennies...
If you tell them you are Wargaming with them and not for "pristine" railway layouts.
A lot of these type of sellers will have bits they can't sell on to the "normal" railway enthusiasts. It doesn't matter if the building are for 1/76-1/87 maybe 1/100 you can play about with door sizes, as it's going to be on a Wargames table.

I have been a fan of trains all my life and enjoy getting them into post-1850 games. I have stations in three scales. The 15mm PP Western station and water tower for ACW games (plus track and train), 6mm railway stations for use with 10mm and 6mm figures for 1854, 1859, 1866, 1870, 1904-5 and 1914, again with trains and tracks, and the Irregular Western 2mm trains, tracks and station for use with my 3mm ACW PP armies and navies when doing the larger ACW battles. I also use the PP track and a printed 15mm engine for my early WWI games on the western front. Still need to get a station for that period, but can use the ACW one at a pinch.

I actually had a go at converting "the General" the other day to make one of the 2 engines at the "Golden Spike" East and West Coast lines met. I ve got another "the General" to represent the other engine, but that's mainly a paint job only.
So I ll have an Eastern and Western and Engine and one from the South "the General" itself. So that should cover my ACW and Western needs.
I have recently got a couple more engines for WW2 and another low slung wagon for the factory game, which will carry another of the "Paper Panzer's" 1945/46.
I do need to Aquire a Western Station and Watertower soon.
At the moment I am scratch building an Arabic type of fort similar to the Airfix Sahara fort, as I am not paying £50 plus to own one. This fits a 12 x 6 template. I am quite pleased with my efforts so far.

I've got the Battlefield in a Box 15mm station and signal tower.  And the tracks.  And in 28mm I have the El Alamein station and track made by Sarissa.
