BB  26 is now out.
As per normal I have shaved some rule bits off.
These bits may re-appear  but we shall test it and see.
Sometimes rules bounce to and fro.

1. I have taken out the "passive player shoot" to make the turn sequence quicker
2. Taken out the over stacking turn section as the overstacking should not be happening.
3. Put in some probabilities to help players weigh up the chances of things happening.
4. Cavalry. Stewart and I have chatted about this but some games need to be done in order to assess how the rules work.
Cavalry have only been in one game so far and Dennis slaughtered them due his being a stunningly handsome general.
5. Guns. Just tinkering. Only 1 game using them has been witnessed so far.
6. Scenario generator. Just tinkering.

This lack of major change does not mean that things are settled. It  just indicates that more games are needed in order to spot the stresses in the moving parts.

Best way to develop rules. I am currently looking at a set of published Renaissance rules where the body of the rules states that a pike unit  has a base of halberdiers per four bases of pike, but the army lists simply say a pike unit can have one base of halberdiers. Most of the pike units are  8,12 or 16 bases strong. Someone dropped the ball.

Martin still has to work out the pike bit of the rules, thay have a mention but not a definitive role in the games.

Cavalry are very new to BB.  An area which we will play test a greta deal.
A problem might be that having cavalry makes the rest of the army smaller.
Cavalry will look nice on the table and add a bit of "surprise".
They will also be aa asset that might go badly wrong if put against well ordered foot.
In addition cavalry might find some of the  table impassable, due to scenery.

I intend to report back after the weds play test at PPHQ.
Watch this space.

Leman (Andy)

Could the size of the army be less affected if the player was able to opt for cavalry at only a small cost on the understanding that they would have a high chance of coming a cropper - or would that mitigate too much against something like a Bosworth refight?

It's a thought. Thanks.

Nick

Finally ready for first playtest this weekend I think.
Will try a couple of units of cavalry too.
Just been sorting through my figures from the old BB. Hope pikemen make it as separate units in the new rules eventually. Will anything change for crossbows or just be used within foot units the same as bows?

martin goddard

May i suggest that you leave put cavalry for the first game Nick?  There is a lot of new stuff in there already.

Nick

Yes, I think that would probably be a better idea to start with.
