Saw Miles' ships today. Astounding. I would not say that to him, in case he gets too big headed.  Miles has modelled open gun ports , rigging, new decks and new figureheads.

Open gun ports? Is there a rule effecting the ships ability to steer with open gun ports, I am thinking Mary Rose?

Sounds like they are nice models so it will be good to see some photos of the finished items and maybe one day to see them in real life?

Not sure there will be a rule about, steering with open gun ports. Probably a bit complicated?

As an aside I highly recommend the Mary Rose, now in it's final position. The re-enactors there make the experience even better.

Here are my 5 pirate ships and a Royal Navy sloop. So far.  I ve nearly finished the modelling side of things, i have Brassed Etched Ratlines to put on but this will be done a bit later down the line.  The Open gun ports are the ones PP do with there gun ranges. I put some on to give the side of the ships suggestions of the armaments stored within the ships ?
I need some advise about the basing of these ships ? How are others basing theres?
I also got the Revell Spainish Galleon with the Oars ! Does anyone know how the oars were stored when in sailing mode ? Were the Oars visable ? Or were they pulled in ?
Any suggestions and help on this would be of help ?

Miles I think that the oars would just be withdrawn onto the deck below the gun deck so you would not see anything.

I have that feeling too. But i was trying to find out for certain.

Miles I think they were more a med thing where the sea is relatively narrow compared to the atlantic so don't want to relie on  the wind for a short crossing and slaves are plenty
