This all sounds very positive and most intrigueing.

Apart from back ache, the disadvantage of a large table is the necessity to buy more figures (thus more painting time) and terrain (or more time making it) to fill all that space.

They sound like a couple of characters soon to be making an appearance in my neck of the woods.

I too have a 6x3, and it still seems huge. Where a game demands a 6x4 or bigger I just switch to cms, or my trusty 18mm inch. All the RFCM games I play easily fit on a 6x3 table, i.e. Square Bashing standard game, CWB, Hammerin' Iron, Regiment of Foote, Bloody Barons and Longships.

No, TBH I find very competetively focused people difficult to relate to and not great company, which is why I now game solo. I prefer my company in walking groups, chatting with folk down the pub and so on. Anyway, wargaming is nowhere near as big in the Netherlands as in the UK. The Dutch magazine, Wargames Soldiers and Strategy, is only available in English as a Dutch print run would be uneconomical. I keep in touch with some of my old club mates but mostly for social interaction, painting tips and product news.

Terrific find. I shall be able to make use of that. Many thanks.

Not sure about all the points but I do like narrative and context, unequal forces, victory criteria, zones. Not too keen on lob on some scenery, lets play the most massive game in the world on the table that always hurts your back, people who leave in a huff because they are not winning, playing against someone who says don't worry you'll pick up the rules as you go along, line 'em up and bash 'em - I'm not 14 any more.

When I ordered a pint of Scumpy in a pub in Porlock in 1973 they would only sell me a half - and I soon realised why!

Then there are grumpy buggers like me who prefer solo, so totally unaffected by all this as far as wargaming is concerned.

Andy

PS prefer my social interaction in a pub; now that does affect me!

Even in 1969 I could have a Saturday night out with my mates with half a crown in my pocket and still go home with 3d.

Can't post photos at the moment Martin, but there are still some of my original postings on the thread You and Whose Army in Eye Candy. These were my first efforts, based individually for the 2017 Bloody Big Battles Bash Day in Oxford, where I put on the Shiloh scenario.

That made for a very interesting trip down memory lane. Thanks to Airfix mag I was able to do some interesting conversions on my first wargames armies - Airfix ACW.

I can testify to the 1/600th ACW figures, having received some reinforcements just before Christmas. I used them to replace my 1/300th figures for both Altar of Freedom and Bloody Big Battles. For Altar of Freedom I base two infantry/cavalry blocks or three artillery on a 60x20 base for massed batteries and brigades. Coupled with scenic items from the PP ACW riverine range, Brigade's tiny terrain ACW buildings, Irregular's 2mm railway plus the free to download 1/600 ACW buildings on the Altar of Freedom website, a very convincing large battle can be depicted in a small area.
