Are your Kallistra Russians looking for a new home?

I am painting up my first unit of Bulgarians using Kallistra 12mm Russians.

My plan is to use them for the Balkan Wars and WW1 Macedonian campaign.

I have been getting some 10mm figures ready for 1914 SB on the Eastern Front. I should have enough done for a game.

I am using one base per unit and will use roster sheets for casualties and use a 4 or 5" square.

The Austrians.

The Russians with Serbian Infantry support.

And a solitary German test unit.

We finished our game with the BEF showing their plucky spirit by holding all 4 objectives.

My thoughts are now turning around to rebasing my 28mm collection from singly based to group bases.

I am thinking of 3 options.

Option 1. 3 figures on a 50 by 30mm bases. I would probably use 3 bases per unit and treat these as an 8 figure unit.

Option 2. 2 figures per base  on a 40 by 30mm base.

Option 3. 2 figures on a 30mm round base.

Is there anyone else using 28mm figures and if so how have you based them?

The figures shown are from the old HLBS range.

Conversely I wonder if Bayonet and Ideology would work for lower level games in WW1.

Our second game of SB is set in 1914. The Germans are attacking a thin line of British and single French battalion.  Due to poor events the British start the game with 5 units in reserve.

A British MG ready to defend the Pimple - an  objective. Figures are Renegade and are now OOP.

Although interrogation of a captured prisoner confirmed that the Germans attack was in force the British command decides to push forward on their right.

The Germans have a single professional unit of Jagers to lead the advance.

Supported by Infantry and Machine Guns.

A well aimed British Supression Barrage delays the German advance and allows the British advance on the right to push the Germans back in disarray.

Meanwhile the Germans advance on the British left and overwhelm the British deployed behind some hasty defences.

British reinforcements arrive to try and stem the German advance.

The Germans attack the Pimple under a well aimed British Point Effect Barrage. The attack us beaten off - just.

At this point we concluded the action which will be continued next week.

Hi Martin

I have being doing a bit more investigating this morning. I managed to not only break my WIFI but also my O2 network connection. I used  this link in an email.

You have been quoted in the post titled "Re: Martin's IT problems" by Smoking gun, you can see the post here:
https://rulesforcommonman.uk/index.php?msg=73373

I captured this screen.

Looking at looks like it's the Firewall on the Forum server that has blocked the access. The IP address is not mine and is probably the public IP of an Internet server.

I powered off my phone and was able to get the 02 access working and was able to break it again by clicking on the link.

Rebooting the router did not fix my WIFI access.

So my conclusion this an issue with the Forum Server provider and not my set up.

Trust this makes sense.

Quote from: Colonel Kilgore on July 29, 2025, 07:31:45 AMYep - that's the same issue here.

On a PC it's timing out before connection, and on the mobile (using data) it's doing the same but with that occasional HTTPS security warning (which ironically just reoccurred when checking this post).

Simon

Hi Simon

An HTTPS security warning is because there has been some sort of problem with the Website Certificate.

Hi Martin

As part of my investigations I used Virgins diagnostic tests and it found a router problem. They sent a new router which solved the problem. Until this morning.

I got an email as you quoted me on this thread with a link to your post. When I clicked on the link it flashed up a screen saying my request had been denied as the forum server thought it was an attack. The result is I can no longer access using my wifi and have to use my mobile data instead.

I am now, as of late morning, not able to access via my home WiFi. Worked fine earlier when I posted about last night's game.

I am getting an error saying cannot connect to website as it taking too long to respond. I am using a mobile so cannot check full response. It may a different response on a PC. Other websites working fine so my access to the Internet is working. I am on
Virgin BTW.

Checked DNS lookup up using MX tool
and server and certificate are fine.

I will reboot router later as my wife is using it for work.

A lovely looking game indeed!

You say you placed 3 hits on the MG, all of which it failed.

As a matter of interest, were there any other units in that same square which could / should have had hits applied to them?

Simon

HI Simon

Yes there was an Infantry unit. I threw well and got 7 hits so the Infantry got 4 hits.

We popped over to Grahams for a game of SB. He uses 1/72 figures predominantly plastic with a few metals ones.

He set up the Amiens scenario with Nigel and myself playing the Brits and James the Germans.

The Germans deployed behind hasty defences await the onslaught.

The British called in a Gas Barrage but the communications were down. So they went forward anyway.

The British managed to get a point effect Barrage to arrive but it drifted causing little damage.

The British advance was supported by tanks and the German line came under pressure all along the front.

The British attacks captures 3 of the 4 as the German lines are overrun. A German counter attack fails and the British win the game.

The rules played well and we only had to refer to the rulebook on a couple of occasions. One question we had was regarding what happens if a unit takes more casualties than bases left. In the game I placed 3 hits on a German MG all of which failed the saving throw. Is this counted as 2 casualties on the square, as this is all the MG could take, or 3. We played 2.

Next week we are having a go at a 1914 game using my 28mm German and British figures.
