Patrols in the Sudan / Re: PITS game 4th September

I thought the firing and fighting method worked better than it did a couple of weeks ago, I also think the opportunity firing and falter test is a good addition as it gives the British a chance of halting the charge.
The introduction of an overall commander worked well as you can now try and move him around to area of crisis though my ability to throw a 1 is not always helpful.

1. Reducing action dice to 6 dice is worth testing at the moment both sides seem to be getting what they want done each turn, alternatively you could make some of the actions harder,
2. having four scouts last night meant I could scout a lot of the scenery making it hard for the dervish to come on or indeed stay on the table. Giving the Dervish player a chance to un scout an unoccupied piece does give them more chance of getting units on and give the British/Egyptians the dilemma - do I occupy the scenery piece or do I move on?
3. Clarity of units, probably more important for the Dervish units, maybe colour of flag?
4. Devish units split between two scenery pieces this can be confusing if you have a number of split units on the table, trying to remember which half belongs to which half, still thinking about this.

In last nights game it was difficult for the Dervish player to get units on as the British kept scouting the scenery. We did talk about uping the initial dervish deployment from three to four pieces, upping scenery to nine pieces. Should the Dervish player be able to place scenery adjacent a scout? Last night the scouts were able to block large areas from the Dervish scenery placement (crafty I know).

I think your new ideas are working well but still a long way to go.

Happy to put on an AWI game as well. I can put them on whenever is convenient as long as there is a session gap between them preventing me mixing between the rules - where is the section on British Grenadiers using double handed axes, what do I need to throw to put those spearmen into skirmish formation etc. Maybe one on the Saturday the other either Friday night or Sunday morning?

I'm not due to work that weekend so can you put me down for a day visitor with lunch Saturday and Sunday. I could put on my Battle of Brunanburh 937 scenario using Hail Caesar - Saxons, Scots, Strathclyde Welsh, Vikings everyone was there.

PBI / Re: Battle day May 10th
April 09, 2025, 09:50:45 AM

Good news for me the Villa game has been pushed back until 1730 hours so I can attend most of the day, if OK with you. I can double up on the second game as I will need to leave before the game concludes. I can leave my figures if needed and pick them up from Stewart or Martin later.

1. Stewart - Russian, Germans and table set up
2. Eric
3. martin- German +Table
4. Miles.
5. Chris - Russians (until 1530 hrs)

Wargames Designs do these sheets in a number of scales, I find the 10mm sheets work well for 15mm.

I would also recommend the Rest is History Warlords of the West series (three episodes). They have also just released a couple of episodes on Charlemagne which I have yet to listen to. Good for painting to or listening whilst walking the dog(s).
