PBI / Re: Have you ever fielded assault guns.
March 14, 2025, 10:00:00 AM
I have 90% finished a 1940 panzershutzen company which has 2 stug A in support.
However, I do have a question. In the architect listings, it does not mention which vehicles (mainly SPGs) do not have MG secondary armament. Early stugs and elephants just to name two. How do people deal with 'small shooting' from such vehicles? Just go with what they know so a stug A, for instance, doesn't get small shooting or is there a rational that allows small shooting for such vehicles?

Quote from: John Watson on March 07, 2025, 03:11:32 PMIf you use decant are you restricted to the 4 models or 28 gun effect rule, in the main rules? If so then you could only have a maximum of 2 platoons mounted on tanks.
John
If you are using my suggested army list then no. The points, and number of infantry bases, will restrict it somewhat, but historically it was a tank heavy force (but remember no separate tank 'unit')
If using the list as written then I think you are correct and the 3rd and subsequent platoons are walking

I think you can squeeze 3 platoons with zero support units :-) My understanding is that they would little in the way of close support anyway. It was meant as a mobile combined arms force ... why expect to take towed guns when you have tanks? Maxims likely to be left behind ...and you have tanks!. Mdm mortars I can see a place for but would they be able to keep up? Historically, I think just core units would be the way to go.

I was pondering on the subject of the infantry priority of staying around the tanks to protect them and how to encourage/force this behaviour.
Played with the idea of some manipulation of the armoured transport rules but decided it would be too clunky. I decided a better solution would be to make the lead tank the PC. It would still allow the infantry limited scope to go off and do their own thing, such as clearing a village as they did historically, but encourage them to stay near the tanks due to potential AP loss.

Martin .... sure I can write some stuff up but not sure when. Currently, my small local group (B'ham) is concentrating on early war so not sure when I will get a chance to test anything out.

This was the solution I came up with.

Historical wise it was a tank company with attached infantry rather than the other way around as in other PBI lists.
There should also be some limitation on how far the infantry can go away from the tanks as their primary role was the protection of the tank not to go gallivanting off on their own mission, but that is by the by and can be explained away by the scale of the battlefield.

Is the company still limited to 1 tank unit, if so, can only 1 infantry platoon be bought on mounted?

As the tanks initially count as transports, is it 1 platoon of tanks per platoon of infantry?

"Every tank unit must carry an infantry platoon."  Why not "The tank unit ...." ???

Am I over thinking this and the term "unit" is actually referencing a single model? (20+ guys on a single T34 is stretching it a bit)

I am confuzzeled

I have a shed and 'borrowed' bread baskets ;-)

('Mushroom' baskets work well also and have a smaller footprint)

Thank you all. 10mm was chosen as I already had the figures, for the most part, painted. However, it did work well for the crowded town look.
The overall look was helped by the consistency, as I produced all the terrain for both players.

3 pictures from my ak47/lebanon table in 15mm with PP figures this time :-)

Thought I would drop a quick post as I am rather pleased with my terrain for B&I
Scale is 10mm
Terrain is all handmade and/or 3d printed

Next up is 15mm PBI terrain

Picked almost at random from my cabinet/s full of FoW 'stuff' a 1941 soviet company. I have every option done apart from the LMGs. All Raw.
400 points is not a squeeze. The only thing I can't decide on is the MMG platoon or a 5th (slightly smaller) infantry platoon

Currently
4 PC
44 Rifles
4 LMG
4 ATR
4MMG
2 81mm

PBI / Number of platoons?
January 04, 2025, 02:26:29 PM
Total newbie to PBI here so please forgive  ;)

Number of units in a company maximum is 5 (or 6 if raw). Check.

Now we come to page 19
"Note: AA, towed guns, tanks and AC are not "support units"."
Does this mean they can be an addition to the 5/6 limit?
If not, as I suspect, why is the definition "not a support unit" mentioned? What am I missing?

Cheers

Bayonet and Ideology / Rules clarifications

New(ish) players having played 3 games and we keep coming up with the same questions and so I thought I would ask here :-)

1.Gifted Leader
Is this asset persistent? i.e Once you have a successful roll, you get 6AP for a square every turn? If that is the case, can you have 2 (or more) 'Gifted leaders'? Also, if persistence is the case, is it assigned to a specific PC?

2.Are hits from shooting allocated before saves are rolled?

3. Is shooting simultaneous, or do only the survivors of the initial shooting get to return the fire?

4. We have found the wording in the 'method' for assaults confusing. Line 4 states "If one side has better quality bases, then it rolls first and is allowed a re-roll." Line 5 states "Both players roll their handful of D6."
Up until reading this 'in the cold light of the day' we have played that the better quality unit rolls for hits, lower quality takes hits then lower quality rolls for hits with what is left
Reading it again, I am wondering if the rolls are effectively simultaneous BUT the better quality troops roll their dice first so that they have to make the call on a reroll without knowing how many hits the lower quality troops have obtained. (Avoiding the auto choice of "I only got 3 hits, I needed 4 to win so a no brainer reroll")
I hope that makes sense

Thanks in advance :-)
