Have you thought about Urban or Space ship terrain, each room /corridor a square?

Conquerors and Kings / Re: Added 2 more CK battles

Just looked at it again (3rd time), and it might be me !

Was looking for blue text on the map to go with the blue text in the army list box, but you have actually colour coded the whole boxes yellow and pink! Completely missed that!

Age is getting to me!

Sorry

That's the problem!

There is no colour coding on the map, only in the army box underneath! The Units on the the map are all black text!.some have a letter B after them, but no explanation as to which force B applies.

I understand that, but it's not clear on the map which general 2 belongs to which side,  is the troops with the B suffix meant to be British  (on the right) and the ones without the suffix the Roman allies (on the left) or doesn't it matter?

Is it me?

Looking at the battle of Brentford. The Roman general 2 is in blue, and I can't see any deployment criteria for them except " sneak attack on chariots" , is this meant to be a flank attack of some kind (with more units than usual) or what?

Thanks

PBI / Re: Here they come and pinning?
August 14, 2024, 03:25:01 PM
Cheers for clarifying its just that on p97 of current rules says "Any and all hits can be traded for a chance at 5,6 =pinned" so that's not clear.

Managed to use the rules for several years without this being an issue, but there is always a first time!

Can't see any rule that would prevent those from opportunity/reactive or HTC fire being a an exception but happy to added it to my notes/errata.

PBI / Here they come and pinning?
August 14, 2024, 07:04:22 AM
As I understand it, when an attacker spends his 3/4 ap to assault the defender gets to fire "here they come" shooting. This is Either 1 or 2 ap worth.

What happens to the assault of the defender hits and converts a hit into a pinned?

A) is the assault stopped dead, as the attacker can't move into the target square? And the ap spent are lost!
B) does it continue but the attacker is pinned next turn?
C) you are not allowed to use pinning for here they come fire?
D) something else?(what?)

Thanks

PBI / Tank machine guns
August 12, 2024, 08:37:52 AM
Just reintroducing PBI to some new players in the club, and one asked a very basic question 're tank mgs which left me wondering.

Does a tank with a hull and a turret mg fire with one or two mgs? ( like a square with more than on Lmg present)

I had played it in the past as one, as I rarely had tanks, but it struck me as a fair point so what was intended?

The hull mg obviously has a restricted arc, but would make them more potent in that arc. I note Panzer 1 treat pair of my as HMG.

Question probably stimulated by the attack sequence in "Fury", when all guns were blazing!!I

Also wonder why Morters can't move and fire, especially light morters, seems very artificial given setup cost for mediums so with 6 ap they could theoretically move once, set up and fire. I would of thought light morters should have a setup time of 2. ap and still move if enough ap??

Thanks

Washington's Army / Cavalry Flankers
June 29, 2024, 07:41:00 AM
Quick question on flankers?

The rules say Units of 4 or less only count +1 to the flanker total.

Does this only apply to Infantry? Or are all cavalry units in flankers only contributing 1 as they are all 4 or less!

Cheers

Thanks for clarification.

The fall back option seems useful if Cavalry vs an infantry army, as it makes little difference to the cavalry who can recharge if survive morale test, but leaves the infantry with the dilemma of moving forward and potentially breaking the wall of close order infantry.

Hastings comes to mind!

Up to now I have always played it as if the target wins, the attackers stays in the adjacent / start square, as I had been working from the rules text. It was only when I read the Summary sheet more closely and saw the option to fall back and create a gap that I had second thoughts.

This fall back to create a gap has obvious benefits as it buys a square time to recover morale problems unless faced by target cavalry which are still in range!

But the different texts made me wonder if the option was something play tested o
And abandoned in the final draft, or was an omission in the rukes.

Conquerors and Kings / Victory Points
May 16, 2024, 08:08:28 AM
How do you calculate "full bases lost" for units which start with a half base missing due to depletions?

Ie does such a unit suffer a full base lost when it looses the half base and becomes 2 bases strong or do you count it when it has lost 2 half bases? (Ie at 1.5 bases strong)?

From a practical point of view it's easier to count the full bases left at the end of the game and deduct these from 3 for Non skirmish units and 2 for skirmishers,, to give a total but it means depleted units can rack up victory points more easily!

Just checking, but the text on assault outcomes is different on the Summary Sheet and in the main rules.

On the Summary sheet, if the target wins, in clause 4 says attacker has the choice to fall back one square OR remain still.

In the rules (p78), the same clause says attacker remains stationary. BUT in brackets has "his choice"

Are the rules right, in which case the "his choice" should be removed, or is the Summary sheet right and text about the fall back option omitted from p78?

Equally the Summary sheet makes no mention of the need for attackers to occupy the target square if the target fallsback, but the rules do. Not a major issue!

You may want to check the basic pack price on the main page £4.35?
