I don't think so.

P102 notes, says pinning cannot be used in response fire, so you can only pin in your own phase by trading in hits from paid for fire.

No "here they come" option as per pbi!

AK47 Republic / Re: AK People's Edition Rules Queries

Just a clarification please on Helicopter arrivals.

P41 says Helicopters arrive when the owner decides

ok BUT

Do they have to be activated first, either as an original choice of a vehicle at deployment, or after a successful communication result for reinforcements?

Reads like "free" reinforcement? With ultimate ability to arrive exactly when required, (not very peterpig!!!),

I have also found at last a use for my dead cow models, a good way to mark minefield!

Just done my first read through of the new Ak47 rules, and it seems very straight forward (after using the Pbi rules!), Except one anomoly?

Victory conditions

On page 112 bullet point 4, in bold it referee to "the same piece of scenery", but other references on the previous and same page say "in scenery"

The later seems to make more sense ie opponents force -2 if in any scenery between your forward units position and your base line.

I note there will be a printed version of AK out later in the month.

Any plans for a printed PBI as well.

Will but both if available!

PBI / PBI 25 clarifications
August 02, 2025, 08:31:55 AM
Having played many generations of the PBI rules I just wanted to check some of the things in the the latest set that have played differently in the past.

A) Partial terrain, in the previous version partial gave cover to the square behind if not occupied by the shooter, This is not mentioned in the new version, does partial cover in the line of fire give any cover beyond or is it only if the target is in such cover?

B) is it safe to assume that assault rifles can only claim the crowded bonus when in proximity ( when it fires like smg), but can't at longer ranges when it fires like rifles?

Square Bashing / Re: Smoke and firing
July 21, 2025, 10:39:08 AM
Thought it might be from the "here they come" comment but it didn't actually say so!

Will edit my p106th to no fire into, out of or through!

Cheers.

Square Bashing / Smoke and firing
July 21, 2025, 07:49:58 AM
Just a quick question on firing and smoke.

The rules on p 106 say you can't fire into or through smoke squares. It Does not mention firing FROM smoke squares other than here they come fire being ok.

Is it still possible to fire out of smoke squares, and if so does this prevent opportunity and return fire?

I liked Sean's article on rules!

Like Sean I have used Peter Pig rules for many decades, and although not my only choice have always been my favourite. I particularly like there complete ness, ie it will auto generate a scenario, give a good interesting game and generate a result. I find "scenario" based games less satisfying.

I also liked the pictures of the ancient games. I have a large collection based on the old WRG system, and no large table at home, and find they work well in a 4 ft side board, with units in column rather than line. The square based moves making frontage not an issue!

PBI are defiantly my preferred small action WW2 rules, although I do use OGroup a lot for large action battles, and To the Stongest at the club for Ancients. The club players having no problem with square based games!

I look forward to seeing the new AK rules, my armies have been mothballed for several years, as my old adversary left the club, but I hope to entice one of the new members to try them.

Conquerors and Kings / Rule clarifications
July 02, 2025, 05:55:57 PM
Just rereading the rules to induct some new players and just wanted to check a few issues.

A) one of the morale adjustments is y/n for proximity support.  Am I right in thinking that an eligible proximity support must comply with the rule of 4? Is at least 4 bases.

B) Obstructing Scenery is a terrain type p12. Clause 3 of Blocked movement p61, referee to "obstructing scenery",  Q is clause 3 referring only to the named terrain type of is it referring to any scenery that any falling back unit can't enter ie chariots and woods etc....?

If it's the former then no units even foot skirmishes can fall back into that specific type of terrain, and must choose a different route. If the latter then most troop types can and will use that terrain type, unless it includes Elephants/Chariot and they have to choose a router they can all use?

General discussion / Re: More players

Went to school in the 60's and 70's.

My biology teacher was a wargamer, we had a club at school, have been playing and running a club ever since!

Even had a wargamer in my local primary school, where my children were, again generated a lot of interest especially my son . But unfortunately more games workshop.

Agree with the demo game comments, we do demo games at local shows but try to use simple games and average models so as not to overaw the new comers. We often spend most of the shows just chatting to people about wargaming, and giving them a feel about the games we play.

We offer a free first visit to the club, and always rope them in to actually play as most games are multi player. We also try and impress on them that they can come and play without having to rush and buy stuff as many of our veteran players can easily host games from their own collections.

Seems to work , slowly!

General discussion / Re: More players

Our club was badly hit by covid, many members stopped coming.

Since then we have tried to recruit more and we are starting to recover. Most are returnees to the hobby, children are now grown up and they have more time and want to get back to gaming again. Several bring along their children in their early twenties, so there is still some interest at that level. We only have one under 18 who comes with his granddad!

We are about the only one in the area which meets every other sunday, so have time for big battles. Most of the others are evenings, so limited to small battles which are mainly games workshop type.

I think units should melt away if reduced below one base.

Otherwise I like them as they are.

Conquerors and Kings / Re: Early Imperial Roman army
April 16, 2025, 06:46:06 PM
The Romans need to avoid pursuit rolls as much as possible.
I have played them Vs Germans several times and if they win the first clash they will tend to win overall.
Using tactics to avoid pursuit rolls means they take few casualties and can wear the barbarians down.

PBI / Re: New version of PBI - A few questions?
March 04, 2025, 06:55:35 AM
Just noticed, but in p21 when describing the adjustment to the dice for BAR, mg34
, Mmg etc. Opportunity fire and return fire are mentioned, but not here they come?

Is this intentional, or does it apply to any fire? Including here the come.
