Those Bowmen I bought last year (Washington's War Iroquois) (Close enough for Mound Builders?) and Midianites to Finish the Pueblo Armies (well, mostly) and some others (PP "elvs") for the Welsh Elves for a North American (Sort of...) campaign.

Then I order more & some heads to do the Warbands.  (Er, ah).  Need more of the Iroquois too.  Grr.

Workbench and Suggestions / Generic DA (Saxon) Bow?
September 26, 2022, 04:13:40 AM
Any possibility of a generic Saxon Bow pack?  I fought one of my armies (as) Italian Ostrogoths last weekend, need more bow.  I have Essex (poorly centered mold!), Baueda (too big & active) "Old Glory" (Again, figures too big for the existing army), and Peter Pig Vikings (VERY nice, in the que to be painted), but too, well, "Norske";  Would like to find a size match to some existing Gladiator and Blood Ax. Looking for unarmored figures with at most a seax (sp?) as a sidearm.  Maybe even two variant packs, one bareheaded (Moderately shaggy) and one in those Saxon Caps?

Is that cap a late variant on the classical Freedman's cap, or an early Monmouth cap?  Or just an artistic convention we have no idea the actual nature of?

(If you must know, Italian Lombards with existing Blood Ax Carolingian Spears pretending to be Ostrogoths....) (Karl G)

Looking forward to the Carolingian Mounted, maybe more Generic Dark Age cavalry?

Looking specifically at the various "Standing" poses in the War of the Roses range, the Household Bills (23-64) look particularly fine.

Most of my painted troops spend most of their lives in the Box, waiting for god to open it and call them into action (standing around on the tabletop...), so I like them to look comfortable standing.

Look nice.  Any possibility of Standing (Spears at rest/upright) Spearmen?

General discussion / Elephants (Classical/"Ancients")
November 25, 2021, 07:35:44 PM
Somewhere Martin asked about Elephants;

Many of the other (15mm) manufacturers make Elephants, if you are doing Republican Romans and Carthaginians, Successors, etc, you have to have (offer) Elephants in your range.  Classical Indians too.

Essex, Magister Militum, Corvus Belli, Minifigs, Strip Minifigs, Museum (?). I know i don't have any Museum or Essex, but have several MM in my lead stash, in various stages.  DBA Armies for Seleucids and Classical Indians (Back when they had Four Elephants) Ah!  Viking Forge/Matchlock (Asgard);  A really nice "Carthaginian" Elephant with no tower.  That one for many years was my only painted elephant.

The Corvus Belli (Carthaginian) one seems particularly nice to me, scored one on ebay.

I was looking through the Essex catalog recently, yikes the prices!  Most of them are Solid, one piece castings (Not the CB or MM), Lots of metal (So Metal and shipping issues!).

I would offer some Strip Minifigs Indian Elephants to Martin (Free issue), I scored a bag (6?) off ebay about a decade ago (cheap!),BUT I have no idea where they are in my remote storage.  (One painted one accounted for!)

I recently bought a couple of nice "toy" (Baby?) Elephants at an art supply store ("Good Luck Minis") ($1.25 each!), but they are more the size for 10mm Figures.  I will look in the "Toob" toys to see what is available next time I scout Hobby Lobby, same Chinese source as the "good luck minis".

Grumbles / Re: This has to be new--Metal fatigue

Actually, this is a known/old weakness of the "Chariot" (Now MM) 15mm ranges, weak ankles.

Looking through my collection of 15mm DBA Armies (40 odd. with lots of, er, parts) casualties through accidental "Epic Fail" elements/figures are often Chariot.

I have a set of Gallic 3Wb from 24 different manufacturers (There may be an element of Peter Pig Germans that snuck in there...) I dropped at one point; Years ago.   All survived except a rather nicely painted Chariot element (DBx speak), all THREE figures "snapped off" at the ankles.

And multiple similar examples in my hoard. :(
