All Pete knew was that the moulds were sold to the USA, apart from the Franco Prussian range which is now with Northumbrian Painting Services - Pete is working on 1866 Austrians to add to the range.

Googling turned up that Brigade Games had bought the 28mm moulds.

Doesn't help establish whether the eBay seller is legit or not as it's possible he did buy them from the widow. Pete traded his commission for a lump sum and was still owed some of it on the death of the owner.

Anything that's different in which I'm vaguely interested.

Standouts for me are:

Years ago in Newcastle at a Tyneside Ancients show seeing Romans v Numidians in a desert setting and and ancient Egyptian army made from Atlantic plastics.

The original Charles Grant Spencer Smiths refighting Mollwitz at a Partizan.

Most recently Simon Miller putting on a Glorantha / Runequest TTS game set in Prax.

I did think of this

I did think of this but the thread is called "poor experience with Peter Pig" which could be misleading.

Marked as resolved, comment:

"Got the email from Julie from PP this morning.

Exceptionally generous, and definitely resolves the situation!"

You could ask for the thread / topic to be deleted by the admin team - happy to do this on your behalf.

I have posted your very generous offer on LAF in response to his topic.

I will post any replies on there here.

Grumbles / Someone complaining on LAF about Peter Pig

For Martin I guess.
There is a Canadian complaining that he ordered figures, changed his mind, but was unable to cancel and (shock horror) PP have already sent the parcel.
Personally, I think it's an overreaction - if he is so unsure perhaps think before you order?
Anyway, he's posted on a public forum. If you wish to respond, I will post on LAF on your behalf.
Here's his comments:

Was rather surprised that I had a bad - horrible - experience with Peter Pig.

Ordered some minis, changed my mind - sent an email right away to ask that it be cancelled. Two more emails followed.

I got ZERO RESPONSE. Then a shipping notice.
Won't order from them again if they ignore after-sales requests - regardless.
Less oink.

(Frankly, that surprises me. I've had nothing but excellent service from them for years.)

I was very surprised too - they have (had) a very good reputation. Still, they blew this transaction.

(Out of interest, what was the timeframe between the order, and the shipping notice?)

About four days. Ordered on the weekend (Friday night), sent my emails through the weekend, and if fast shipping counts, the parcel left today. So apart from not wanting the order, the upside is they did ship fast.  lol

Yeah, calling from Canada is pricey.

And four days - three emails - no response.

Well, I replied to the confirmation email. And to an email "for any issues", so not sure what more I could have done. I have no social media presence - I would not have known if there was a show or not. I don't keep track of the shows - it's too far (and wet) of a drive from Canada.

Anyway, it's about $150, to make a return would be $25, so not really worth it now.

If someone has an email - multiple emails - they should check it. This happened over a weekend, but Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday were all working days? Three days.

Hopefully the minis will live up to my expectations. It's been a long-nascent goal to do an RCW project.

I remember him at shows - the "lurkio" thing probably represents his humour - I recall buying some Falcon sheep and he quipped "are they for the Welsh?" I was a bit slow and puzzled as I hadnt bought any Welsh so replied with a straight answer......☺

I also recall buying the first edition of DBA from him at a show in Newcastle.
He attended a lot with his stock of Essex miniatures until there was a fall out and accusations of piracy.

I still have a lot of Falcon figures in the unpainted pile of shame / opportunity.

Andy,

The QRF website is a nightmare to navigate - it was closed recently for maintenance but it hasn't improved!

There are bigger issues however; Geoff sold or passed the business to his nephew, but recently reported he has not received any royalty payments or similar and after failure to reach a settlement has taken back a lot of the moulds. He intends to restart production under GeoffQRF - he also owns the "QRF" name, but this apparently is also in dispute!

As far as I can tell he owns the FK15 ranges and only the modern ranges are left with what was QRF.

The current owner (nephew) has been reported as not being very communicative, but AFAIK, does fulfil orders if not very quickly....

I'd stay clear until the dust settles!

Most, if not all, the Outpost figures were designed by my mate Pete Foggin.

He might know the inside story.

More here:

https://independentwargamesgroup.blogspot.com/2025/04/charlie-wesencraft-author-wargamer-and.html

I once gamed against him at a club in Newcastle. Huge SYW game using rules I'd written. I ended up commanding the Austrian cavalry wing opposite his Prussians.
My cuirassier in the front line routed his dragoons - his brigade commanders were attached to each line, with the brigades formed in separate lines; whereas mine were between the front and rear units of the brigades formed in columns. It meant I could retain control, even if a front line unit routed, while his were lost. He complimented my deployment.
We then had to test for risk to commanders - it was low, something like 9 or 10 on a D10, increased if they were in combat which gave a bonus.
Charlie proceeded to throw about four 9s or 10s killing off almost my entire compliment of brigadiers for that wing!
I had intended to follow up my initial success but was prevented from doing so....

I remember he was a terrible name dropper - " my friend Terry, Terry Wise" ☺ he was great friends with Terry Wise and Stuart Asquith (who I also met once but that's another story ☺).

He worked for Tyne & Wear museums and built dioramas for them - siege of Newcastle 1644 - and organised wargaming events - I went to a WotR one he'd set up.

A nice man.

Quote from: John Watson on August 27, 2025, 02:02:44 PMBest thing. Peter Pig. Thanks Martin.
Worst thing. The loss of small figure manufacturers like Warrior and Outpost and their associated ranges that are not available in any other form.
John

John,

Warrior miniatures are available and trading again - he's had help from relatives to restart the business.

Good - the sheer choice of figures in all scales, covering almost every period. When I started it was use what was available, convert or do without! Now such things as Paraguayan war are mainstream....

Bad - the number of companies disappearing as people retire and no-one picks up the ranges. It was always frustrating when a small company producing nice figures disappeared before you had got all you wanted - now it happens much more frequently.

I'll introduce another category - biggest innovation.

I'd put mats under this, along with 3D printing....

Aside from the painting - if it's really hot you have to use a wet palette - no good if you use washes! Probably find something else, modelling or cleaning up to do.

Aside from that, probably not much as being a wage slave still (only a few more years before escaping), my hobby time is limited to weekends......along with everything else!

Gardens - too much about that will trigger hayfever!

While it's a good age, still very sad.......

Many memories of him at shows.
