Mmm, I'll have a think about that. It's a long way from my base though, even if I hire a gunboat. (W.Cumbria)

Thanks Stewart. We do manage to incorporate several players in our RFCM games (BB, AK47 and RoF all version 1's) in similar fashion- I just thought the very asymmetrical nature of PIT's may have been tricky.

A more immediately tricky problem is I haven't painted anything yet for it......   :)

Anyone used these rules with more than two players/ we tend to put on games in our group with around 3-6 players. Any ideas how/if this could be done?

Cheers,

Log table and factor based rule mechanisms.
Firework display games due to lack of command friction thus allowing everyone to move exactly how their commanders want every turn.
Written orders.
By and large, in our group, points based games.

General discussion / Re: Prices
March 27, 2025, 05:02:51 PM
Price rises are inevitable really, just one of those things. Unfortunately they always seem worse when the rise crosses psychological boundaries like £5.00 a pack.

I'm still recovering from the days when 15mm figures went over one pounds a pack- I've a long memory.

If it is necessary then I'm sure any impact will be temporary until the new price becomes the new norm, besides it's not as if wargame products are luxuries we can do without and avoid buying is it?

So far they have aged well-admittedly only nine months or so. Even the metallic ones have withstood a good coat of gloss varnish being brushed on.
Gloss is good in my world.

I know this reply is late...I use a white one to do the hat lace on tricorn hats- admittedly in 28mm but I'm not perfect and I think they would work for proper scale figures too. I bought a pack of four black, white, gold and silver. Sorts out buttons.

Terrain and Figures / Re: Cork bark

Cork bark is used in Spain to make Christmas scenes and decorations. I got a huge piece for not a lot a few years ago. So if you just happen to be on you're winter holidays...keep your eyes open.

Regiment of Foote (ECW) / Re: Clubmen

We have used them as a random unit or three that appear if anyone approaches a village edge (we are talking v.1 rules here) with a D6 to decide if they are favourable to one side or another or neutral. If they join one side they can be commanded at -1 for motivation and -1 for AP. Neutral units just stand about and reroll each turn something happens that might influence them to join in. Generally any unit trampling their crops or occupying a village will likely elicit a response. i can't remember the scores we used to be honest.

For fighting we just classed them as musketeers for melee and with no real shooting capability though sometimes we assumed one base had firearms and let them shoot.

We found they were a colourful nuisance. They could also be fielded as ill-armed recruits with the same rules but nobody has bothered yet and to be fair only myself has bothered painting any.

If my experience is anything to go by I think the boot  markers must have sold fairly well- I have bought them on at least three occasions as I kept losing them.

Bother, here is me thinking we are getting some update or mods for v.1 of ROF and it turns into a discussion about computing devices. :)

FWIW I use a Chromebook too, mostly.

ROF v1. PDF all sounds good to me.

Coincidently we are playing with these again next week.

games aren't like wot they used to be

most games now have far less - around the 100-150 figure mark

Happily whilst I have a few "ancient" armies, I also have some without contemporary enemies so plenty of scope for me to buy and paint more figures. I do have a horse archers host gap in my collection, and a paucity of elephants too for that matter. Just saying.
