General discussion / Re: Starting over in 15mm?
September 22, 2025, 10:54:47 AM
I don't have any 15mm any more. These days I use 28mm for skirmishes and 6mm for battles. But I would still say that 15mm is the best all-round scale. It's the smallest scale where I would want to do skirmishes with single-based figures, and the largest where I'd want to paint 300+ figures a side and fit them on a 6' x 4' table.

Bought loads when they first came out, as they were ridiculously cheap. Cheaper individually than GHQ 1/285 back in the day. Decent models too. Not looked at them since though.

On the subject of new PP projects I asked the utterly useless ChatGPT about Sengoku wargames rules and was surprised to learn of a Peter Pig ruleset currently in development. It's the first I've heard of it, and I'm sure it's the first you've heard of it too...

Mcguffinium. A highly prized mineral that everyone wants more of but no-one really knows what it's used for. It is extremely rare but can be found on any planet in a conflict zone.

Quote from: Colonel Kilgore on January 23, 2025, 12:32:00 PMGosh, this is getting confusing!

Maybe they'll have a stand at Beachhead so we can see the goods before buying?

Simon

Or possibly two stands...

Same company. Tinywargames says it's a 'sister site.' Presumably to keep trading while whatever TF is happening with Tiny itself is resolved.

Richard Bailey is still listed as director at Companies House. IF it is under new management, they should probably change the name. I've never had a problem with Tinywargames myself but there's a lot of people across various social media who have.

I measure up the grid and put a penny coin at each intersection first, then double check the whole thing before painting a dot where the pennies are. Like Sean said, you don't have to be too exact, so it's easy enough to do yourself.

Simon Miller sells some Deep Cut ones if you want to avoid the postage from Lithuania.

General discussion / Re: Is it just a boardgame?

One of the many odd things about the hobby is that for a lot of people the defining feature of a miniature wargame is not miniatures at all, it's tape measures.

Are the zebras going to be part of a gnu range of wildlife figures?

General discussion / Re: Dice probability
September 04, 2023, 04:23:46 PM
It's one of the reasons I prefer 'buckets of dice' games. It's much harder to work out probability, and it becomes more about estimation which is more 'immersive.' With only a few dice involved, if you have an aptitude for mental arithmetic and a few decades experience of playing dice games, you can't help but work out the probabilities.

Just goes to show that in any historical wargame an O-Level in probability will be of more use than a PhD in the history of the period.

A+1 on an opposed d6 roll is very significant. You'll win 21, draw 5 and lose 10 out of 36 outcomes. So winning twice as many as you lose. Initiating combat against +1 is practically suicidal. I never ceased to be amazed how many people did it anyway in the days of DBM and Armati
