General discussion / Re: Interesting tank facts
September 10, 2024, 11:42:37 AM
British tank development was sponsored in the very early days by the Royal Navy rather than the Army. A certain Winston Churchill as First Lord of the Admiralty was apparently keen on the idea of using 'land ships' to break the dead lock on the Western Front.

This is why several of the parts of even modern tanks take their names from ships e.g Hull, (Engine) Deck, Bow ( Gun) and Hatch.

Square Bashing / Re: Squarebashing 2025

I'll be using Italians. The army is already completed. They are Peter Pig early war German jaegers and French with suitable paint jobs and the addition of head swaps to create the Bersaglieri. They look the business to my uneducated eyes.

Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday. A special thanks to those who made long journeys to put games on. It was great to see  an oasis of PP games in a sea of sci-fi and fantasy.

It was Julian Bonny's vision to organise a regular Peter Pig meet up in the North. The events guy at EG told me that they are taking bookings for well into next year. If anyone wants to organise another one EG can be contacted via their website.

Thanks again.

I don't know about the NW but it's a lovely sunny day in York today.

Looking forward to seeing your fleets Miles. We have 2 people so far who have expressed an interest in playing HI.

The final numbers are 6 6 x 4 tables at the venue (which should be in a block).
6 games
12 tickets sold.

I'm still waiting some replies from 'non-hosts' on game preferences but that can always be sorted out on the day.

Aiming for a 0930 start.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

Hi Dex,

Yes it would be good to sell those final tickets before Saturday.

Last year we drove round the venue car park and then went next door when we saw it was full. I'm sure there will be volunteers to help you in and out with your stuff.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Worth pointing out Element Game' food and drink policy.
They have no problem with people bring their own food to the venue.
However, they ask that you don't bring in drinks from off site.
I'm pretty sure they sell hot drinks as well as cold drinks but I'll check.

!!! There are now only two tickets still available for the event. So if you are planning to attend but haven't got your ticket yet please don't delay !!!

Thanks for the correction Martin and apologies to Dex.

I've been approached by the venue who have asked if we are willing to reduce the number of tables to 7 and cap the number of players at 14 (we have 12 at the moment). This is due to other events being oversubscribed. I'm minded to agree to this. We currently have 5 games I think (AK47 Reloaded; 6mm Square Bashing, Pirate Raid, C&K, Hammerin Iron) which is a good number of games and I can bring Western if requested.
Sounds a good number of people and mix of games to me.

Unless someone has a strong desire to play it I'm thinking of leaving the Western game at home.

I've a very strong desire to play C&k and the Pirate raid game.

Hi Dex,

I've paid the deposit and the event is going ahead as far as I am concerned. The 12 attendees so far are listed on the other thread. Yes it would be great to have some more. If anyone is thinking about it judging by the previous events it promises to be a great day out. Games on offer need to be finalised but we'll get that sorted soon.

Cheers

Hi Martin,

I've heard back from Element. It was dodgy Spam so please delete. Thanks for flagging up they've taken corrective action.

Don't worry Martin your one of the Magnificent 7 on the list I got from Element Games.
The list of names at the top of the thread is really out of date. I'll see if we can get that up dated.
