Squarebashing 2018 is to be held on Saturday 23rd June 2018, at Battlefieldhobbies in Daventry.
It will be a team event (entries permitting). The armies are divided into 2 Pools. In each team - one player plays allies, the other central powers. I have added forces from the Russian Civil War that are dated 1918+. I have added 2 neutral armies that can be fielded on the either side. Game pairings will 'historical' were possible, and avoid 'same club' where possible
The lists and statuses are
(https://i.postimg.cc/gcvkCRRk/Screen-Shot-2017-11-12-at-15-03-16.png)
There will be 2 games, Team against Team (Allies vs Central Powers). For each game the sum of each team score will be added to the team total. The army points are 620pts (standard game)
To encourage using under valued armies the sum total of army rating will be deducted from final score.
The terrain will be pre set , other than that, its RAW. You have the option to use the 'Rays Stick' method for countdown to battle. There will be no trench, canal or fort games. All painted figures please, we want it to look nice!

I can feel a new army coming on for next year. American Doughboys or a RCW army which I have wanted to do for a very long time.
Many thanks for this, Simon.
I saw the "not up yet" bit after clicking on the Battlefield Hobbies link (doh....) - perhaps you can kindly let us know when they do have things set up on their website?
Very much looking forward to this next SB extravaganza!
Simon
The online booking is now up.
Please can you book up as soon as possible so the venue can organise the buffet

Paid.
Likewise - paid eventually (I think!).
Slightly quirky payment system with some approximate English at time - they offer Amex, but are unable to actually process it.
When I paid by another method, I received the intriguing message of: "The payment could not be processed. However, it seems that the payment was successful nevertheless. Your order was created and can be seen on the order confirmation page. Please contact us to find out more about the status of the order."
So I think I'm going...
This is rallying cry for entrants please. While it is still a long way away , its good to get names and numbers just for the venues sake
A useful reminder.
Without asking for names, how many do you have signed up so far Simon?
I intend to come of course! Will ask the lads who wants to make up the "expeditionary party".
Any particular theme?
We are just 6 weeks away now, so this is just a bump to get this back into peoples mind to enter
thanks
Simon
Simon,
Can I just check that I'm on the list? They seem to have taken my money when I signed up online, although the subsequent message I received was a tad ambiguous!
you are not on the list - I'm just chasing up
Cool, thanks - the payment may not have gone through, then - please let me know if it didn't and I need to resubmit.
Simon - I have just checked my credit card statement. Battlefield Hobbies did indeed relieve me of £12.50 on 20th November...
And I've just spoken to the nice gentlemen at the store. All sorted, and he's converted my status to "fully paid up". Apparently their site sometimes has issues with Barclaycard. As well as with Amex...
Most importantly, it sounds as though there are only 5 of 6 of us signed up in total, so we need some more of you to come along and join in the fun, please!
Chris is putting together a team of 4 or so from Weymouth area. He is on the job
Well done Chris!
Hello Mr Lurkio!
May i use a Semenov army. But it has a train, is that OK? A train would look good. I thought this army might be enjoyable to use rather than choosing it as a battle winner. I shall win of course??!!
Any thoughts from other SB games day players??
I think you should go for it, Mr Pig!
As you say, it's about fun gaming, not winning-at-all-costs.
I would love to see your train on the table.
I am a tad confused, though, how you will manage to deliver suicidal frontal charges using it?
I can easily organise pointless assault with my poor quality infantry. Just tell them that victory is assured! if they fail it is their fault for being unworthy. Got it covered!
Simon, Martin only plays one way. Start from your deployment area and head for the opponents baseline!!
That is true.
OK, so we just need to make sure that the track is pointing in the right direction, then :)
I too paid back in November and despite returning to shift work find myself off duty. Looking forward to this after my hiatus.
May due my British as Americans for a 1918 doughbiy list.
Not wishing to be a pain, but weren't the German Spartakists left wing and the Frei Korps right wing?
We are now up to 10 entrants, so we are viable - which is good start.
4 more signed up today from the deep south

I've just sent out a mail, but I now need a list of the armies people are bringing
thanks
Simon
Simon,
Late War British for me, please.
And if that means we have too many Brits and mine need to be fighting a turncoat Russian train, then so be it :)
Simon
I am stoking up the boiler. played Les twice with the army against his late war Germans. i lost twice, but Germany will lose in the end and glorious communism will be installed for the people's (well some) benefit. Painter Dave is doing some reservist infantry for me at the moment.
Interesting games, hopefully Martin will be playing with the correct version of the correct set of rules this time!
Surely Les the rules are mere guidance??
i shall just roll lots of 5,6 and scatter my enemies before me.
If you let the cat out of the bag, it may have a detrimental effect on your rules sales?
Simon
After last years stunning success I shall bring along my late war French again. I have developed a new plan that relies on the elan of my infantry. Futile frontal assaults will remain the order of the day and my men shall carry all before them - long live the Republic.
Chris
Sounds like a cunning plan.
With such stirring words Chris, it can not fail!
Played SB again today. Semenov's Russian v late war British. The Brits came on and flattened the Russians. The Rusan did launch a-cavalry attack but the infantry stood fast and killed the cavalry. The armoured train shot a few Brits but could not stop the brits flowing arounf them. If at first you fail , give up.
Bought two sets of the Warbases plastic markers for SB. They are nicely finished, but the etching is very light. Gone over the words with a black pen and they are a bit better. The red ones are much clearer than the transparent ones. Les' mdf ones seems the ckaerest of all. Others had experiences (not with aliens, but with the markers).?
Yep I would go with the wood ones every time, the plastic gets a bit lost!
I was given an excellent tip re warbles plastic markers. Paint over the letters of the dark ones in white and light ones, such as yellow, in black - use acrylic paint. After painting each one wipe off the excess paint with a tissue/kitchen towel while it is still wet. Now you can see the words very clearly.
Searched my flickr account for a photo but couldn't find one.
I prefer the plastic ones, as they are less intrusive on the table.
Which I guess, by definition, means they are less visible!
I did try the paint and wipe , but there is very little depth to the engraving. Not to worry I can always ask 'what is that?" Might treat myself to some MDF ones soon.
Warbles!? Bloody autocorrect - WARBASES.
Martin
Got the kids to go over my bases with a wax crayon, worked really well.
Wardy
Drum roll please :)
So here are the runners and riders -

Ray, Dene & Martin take an early lead, but will all the juggernaut armies have the umpff to catch the up? Get digging boys !
Excellent work Simon. Ate you OK to change Miles to late war British?
Thanks
QuoteAte you OK to change Miles to late war British?
Martin, Miles had said German or British? I had used this as an opportunity to even up the sides. Are you say that you haven't got a German 'loaner',or its because Miles wants to use British?
If that is the case we are have an uneven teams, and allies will have 2 blue - on - blue games
No problem Simon. i will find him a German army.
good stuff!
Martin just remember they are playing WW1 or thereabouts not WW2, you could do a SCW german army might be interesting!!
I am happy to play what ever army is needed and i can get my hands on.

And I think the plan is mostly to use the rules as printed in the book :)
I think we played most of the game on Sunday following the rules.
Here is the draw for Saturday AM

That will look great on my shelf! Nicely put together.
That is a beauty, what a pity I can't get there.
What a great trophy - well done Simon. I now wish I was using a better army!
Its all just a game of dice!!
The quality of the army should make no difference, its the quality of command, and in the flick of the wrist!!
Wise words Leslie. I've no excuses now! It would be good if you could make it next year.
Spent the weekend hay making, need the hay for next winter for our sheep. This time of year is very dependent on the weather.
Helped to make 25 large round bales of hay and 100 small bales.
Been playing SB with the local french club and have nearly completed a french translation of the play-sheet and going onto to next the Battle-sheet as each player needs one. Your dashboard helps considerably! Interesting times getting the PP concept of the game into the french speaking players who are used to Saga and Bolt Action.
