Title: Current issues in Spain
Post by: Sean Clark on September 30, 2017, 01:10:10 PM
We may be heading for some civil unrest again in Spain. I well remember seeing the coup attempt on the TV in the early 80's I think.

The world is a very unsettled place, more so than I can remember in a long time. Wargaming might seem an odd choice of hobby to  choose at the best of times. I like to think it does two things.

1. It allows some escapism in a gentlemanly pursuit.
2. It gives us some perspective on thigns from a historical perspective and that the old saying  'plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose' was never more true.

Catalonia has a head for it. If it leaves then the Basques will want to leave too. What with that and the Kurds wanting a homeland. It is an interesting time we live in. It used to be Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times".

Living as I am in Spain, this is  very traumatic for everybody. What a complete and utter shame. Politicians are to blame and so is invented history. A nation's coat of arms is a reflection of its national DNA....and since the Middle Ages, in the national coat of arms I see Castile, León, Aragon and Navarre as nations with that open tent flap at the bottom  showing a pomegranate representing the kingdom of Granada, ergo Andalusia. Those are the historic nations....not one of them are actually pressing for devolution, so what does say about the whole scenario?
