Title: Searching for inspiration?
Post by: Colonel Kilgore on September 24, 2017, 04:55:59 PM
I just (re-)stumbled onto this wonderful site, which has a number of galleries by period.

The majority of the buildings and figures in this Wild West gallery are by Peter Pig:

Good find, lots of ideas.  His list also shows the pieces that are missing from PP ranges.

It is interesting to look at. This is pretty much what I liked to do. Set up little scenes and make models to fit in them. It is much more fun than all this wargaming business, but does have the advantage of people being able to use some of my scenery for their games if that is what they wish to do.

It is not my favourite part of the hobby. The odd game say once a week is OK.

For me the hobby is about collecting and making / painting models be that figures, tanks, scenery whatever. I like to make up little scenes like the ones shown is these photographs. That for me is much more enjoyable than gaming which at times can be a little obscure and random.

I would much prefer to see a table set up with a nice town, station, cattlemen's, docks etc and figures populating it looking like they live there. Of course I know is that is not what everyone wants, but to me that is the hobby. Gaming is just a small bit tagged on the side.

I think I would be just as happy to see people use my scenery / models and watch the game unfold, rather than partake. As long as they were respectful of my stuff of course and did not keep moaning about it or breaking it.

Well if they moan I'd take your toys home!

The hobby is a broad church and there is room for us all. I'm definitely a gamer rather than a modeller although i do like a nice looking game.

It's ironic that despite this I get to play a game only once or twice a month.

True but that once or twice a month isn't always a Piggie game. I'ts why i don't mind travelling down to Weymouth. And I also need to get down to Burton which whilst only an hour away is on a school night and i often don't finish work until 6 or 7pm  :o

Hope you have  a great day out.

Don't think you'll find much Peter Pig stuff.

No Peter Pig, and almost nothing relevant to 15mm gaming like scenery.
