But wasn't the idea that they basically were fielded as infantry (having left their horses somewhere safely behind the lines), and fought dismounted, or has this changed?

At the moment the cavalry force arrive mounted (attacker or defender) once deployed before game start the owner can decide sq by sq to dismount, every 4 bases or part of roll a D6, 4+ lose a base as horse holders and leave the table.
when mounted :-
get a free sq of movement,
count as close assault against troops in the open or partial,
Only shoot short range,
no LMG firing
Can't assault difficult scenery
Once dismounted can't remount

Ah, thanks for the explanation, Stewart.

That all sounds good fun, but I can see how it must be providing some challenges in getting the balance right there!

How were you dealing with the basic squad of ten bases. The basic platoons have 8 riflemen, 1 command base, and a LMG.

This would normally be for the two platoons, veteran, three platoons, average, and four platoons if raw.

Any adjustments for quality either mounted or on foot, although on foot they should then become as other platoons.

What has been done about extras or assets?
