Players do like vehicles in sci fi games.
Back in 1995 we had a "Bomag" drop ship model in our sci fi range.
In the current version of TCR.
The legionaries and Praetorians move under their own power to the combat.
This leaves the auxiliaries to walk there.
The attacker auxiliaries could arrive in a drop ship, but that would need changes to the arrival system. There would also be the attached consideration of the drop/attack ship being shot at (off the shoulder of Orion?). The drop ship would need its own rule section as well.
This is just chat about drop ships to see what the overall player feeling is by those that play TCR.
This in no way is a discussion about tanks, RPGs and HMGs types. These are not going to be part of TCR due to plausibility considerations.
martin :)
I think the arrival system is fine as it is, nice and simple.
To take the story further
Attacker to avoid missile/weapon systems arrived out of area and moved in on the ground to launch their attack
Stewart
I imagine this is similar to those players who want their Japanese to arrive on table riding their bicycles in a game of PBI.
As Stewart says, they'd disembark just off table; as a drop ship would be too tempting a target for enemy guns if it landed in the combat zone.
Martin would you write or going to write a small note in the rules, to help people understand this ? I can imagine some players wondering why that there is no mechanical way of arriving? Or being able to use an APC like in Alien ? Or Halo ? For example!
That way they can understand the Rules haven't left these out, it would simply overcomplicate them ?
I know why you haven't included them but we know what some people are like ? They would then possibly reject the rules as it was an oversight to not include a dropship say in the rules ? Even though 40k for years done the same until relatively recently?
It's just an outside view as of yet I haven't really looked at the rules ? As AK 47 has taken a fair share of my time lately ?
Miles
Good thoughts chaps. Miles you are right. I shall put a section in.
