As my earlier post I'm coming back to 15mm, but need to sort out some useful scenery... note I don't have a single 15mm figure at the moment to use for scale.
So I need some guidance on sizes... to get my terrain started.
Searching the forum it looks like...
Road width looks like 25mm tracks to around 40mm roads.
Trees max height 50-70mm high?
Fields walls and hedges around 10-12mm high (not Bocage).
Scenery must fit into 12x6' or 6x6' squares and nominally 25-30mm high.
Does this all seem correct?
12 x 6 is a normal template size. The 6 x 6 will normally be Objective pieces.
Road withd is normally dictated by the vehicles themselves! A Road should accommodate to vehicles going past each other in opposing directions. A track would be a single vehicle withd and maybe a touch more. Depending on what you are trying to achieve?
Buildng templates are generally Squared off corners all the others are generally curved at the ends ! Might have a small pinch point in the middle.
I generally mark a large MDF board with 12 x 6 lines then cut using a jigsaw.
Those that need rounded edges make on the board before cutting, but gives you a bit of freedom with your rounds corners, sides and edges ? ( plates and saucers are good for this to get the right sort of curve) To draw around parts of there edges ?
Hedges, walls and trees. Get some PP 15mm figures to gauge there rough sizes ?

I've dug out some old 12x6 hills (or near enough) plus rough hills. So will get this terrain started.
Miles is our local King of the Scenery, and has provided some useful tips.
I would venture to disagree a tad on road width, though. In our games, vehicles will not be passing each other, and I feel that wide roads can look really naff in 15mm.
So I stick with "it's got to be wide enough for the vehicle to sit on it", but no more. Probably 40mm maximum? But that's my personal opinion, of course - we're a broad church!

I would argue that for any scenery there are only 2 issues that matter:
1. Does it look right? If the gamers feel that it jars then it isn't acceptable regardless of footprint, height etc.
2. Does it fit in with the rules in use? Is it clear that it is impassable, blocks line of sight, provides cover or whatever else.
Nothing else matters.

Derek,
I totally agree.
However, I am always looking for hints from others as to what might "work" (notably to your point #1) to save me from the time, cost and frustration of trial and error!
I've learned a lot from the good folk on this Forum, for which I am most grateful.

Near enough is good enough!
Simon I know where your coming from.
But I just wanted to Clarify, for an actual (tarmac) type road a rough guide of 2 vehicle width, but not 2 tanks width ?
For a track 1 vehicle width ? So depending on what people have rather than it must be #@ mm wide ?
Visually it can look good that going into a town a tarmac road can actually hold some vehicles on it ?
If as Simon says the road is nearly as wide as the Square or even half the width, it can look very wrong !
But at the same time if the cars and lorries look as if they are falling off the "Roadway" they are on again can look wrong !
As any gaming situation, when it come to looks does it look right ? Or too much ? Can be a good guide to what you and how you produce ?
