Title: X marks the spot- Gordon's alive
Post by: martin goddard on September 03, 2025, 07:43:26 PM
PITS X has gone out.
This is a first version after just a couple of try outs.
Most mechanisms are from the existing set (cards, scouting, points, missions victory points etc.).
Some are new (shooting, fighting) and some are from other RFCM sets (Vietnam).

here goes.

Had my first read through. This will suprise no one who knows me...but I'm very excited for this game!

The rules all sound good at the moment with familiar mechanics from other rules within the RFCM stable. Very much looking forward to trying them out, hopefully at the weekend.

One thought. For the scale of game we are recreating, the leader for a section of British infantry would be probably be a Sergeant/NCO, with the officer/commander likely a Lieutenant. Should we refer to the unit officer as the NCO/Sgt?

Seeing as Peter Pig produce a pack of British Sergeants, this would possibly have a great economic impact!  ;D

It's the kind of thing rivet counters pick up on.

It is the enthusiasm of you and the rest of the team that gets the rules done. Otherwise new ideas cannot be tried out and instigated.

My observations of existing colonial rules I have seen are:-
1. Frontal firefights and charges constitute the larger part of the game. e.g attack the square, attack the buildings.
2. Not much colonial troop manoeuvring. They pick a place then stand and fight
3. Game is decided by mass shooting and the native big charge.
4. Rules are often an amendment/development to an existing Napoleonic set.

This is all great fun, but lacks replay value.

A nice game for four players on a big table, but do you want to play it again 40 times in a year?  I think not.
I hope PITs will be replayed 40 times in a year with a fresh play outcome each time?
