Title: opportunity fire
Post by: Kevan da G on June 28, 2025, 09:02:26 PM
A quick yes/ no question about opp fire.

a unit moves into opp fire range at an angle, but defender's unit elects to not use opp fire as he is worried about a frontal attack, can only hit on a 6 and decides to reserve it.  He wishes to opp fire on a second unit if it closes to contact.  In the end, the second unit does not roll enough AP to close with his second unit to his front and halts deliberately outside opp fire range....

Can the defender now elect to take his opp fire against the first unit still within opp range and is his only valid target?

A discussion regarding interpretation revolved around what the interpretation of "going back" meant in the rules.

one side interpreted that "not going back" meant it couldn't fire as if anything that had happened to it in the meantime would be ignored...ie...It would have to fire as it currently existed with any extra casualties and disorder, not what it could have fired at the time.

The other side said it meant if you elected not to fire for any sreason, you couldn't change that decision.

Best regards

The p80 note means that if an opportunity shot is not taken, then it is lost.
I hope that does not cause too much upset?
