This is my biggest grumble about myself as a wargamer.....Distraction and shiny get preference over mundane and practical.
So...How stupidly impractical do you go?
eg
Should ALL your RCW armies have a separate armoured train of generally 5 carriages?
if your justification for not doing the 5th RCW army with a train is it has been given a gunboat that is 380mm long, is that a good thing?
Should all your armies have their own specific arcraft right down to the historically used model version?
Is having a 1/100 Short Sunderland as a 15mm marker a bit OTT?
Any thoughts?
Nothing is OTT in this hobby. If you enjoy the immersion and the process of building, collecting and playing then that's all that matters.
Of course, significant others may have a different opinion but when has that ever worried anyone 😂
I like the cut of your Jib!
"that man knows how to defend a hopeless position.....Raise him to Corporal!"
Have now got to the stage where the overall look is sufficient for me. My 1848 Holstein jaegers with plume can serve equally well as 1866 Lippe fusiliers, even though they did not wear the plume in campaign dress.
I am busy painting 15mm WotR units but they're governed by the shiny, sparkly pretty coloured flags that I possess. I am not painting a historical unit that fought at such and such, and then finding the right flag. No, I choose a flag that pleases me and then I paint the unit to fit it. Mad but I do love those flags, standards, livery colours or whatever.
I have the FPW in 28mm, 10mm and 6mm and am hoping that WoFun will release Peter Dennis' planned 18mm range. I have been fascinated by this conflict for almost 60 years. When I started you could get Michael Howard's classic work in paperback and a couple of antique books on the subject. Gradually typed photocopied booklets began to appear, and in the last 25 years there has been a veritable avalanche of rules, scenarios, new books and facsimile reprints of older books. It has taken until this year for an English language book specifically on the campaigns of the Army of the Loire to appear
