Title: -1d6 shooting dice v target in wood or building?
Post by: Nigel_s on May 21, 2025, 09:09:59 PM
I've read the rules many many times so imagine my surprise when flicking through this evening I read something I hadn't noticed before!

P52 Scenery Effect
Woods & buildings on foot

-1d6 when targeted within it

I guess just being five words out is easy to miss. Ive never played removing shooting dice when firing into wood or building.

Is this meant to be remove 1d6 per action point of firing? Or 1d6 from the total per base (as per BAR)? Is number of HE firing dice reduced or just small shooting?

As a play tester it is a bit embarrassing to ask. But ive not noticed this before.

I have also never noticed that before, and never known it to be played that way. I think.

I checked through the shooting chapters for any other reference to removing a firing dice, but found none.

Perhaps I've misunderstood the reference on p52?

It is hard enough to cause casualties in hard cover (woods, buildings) where bases die, mostly, only on a 1. I don't think I have ever played that rule, if it exists. However it is amazing what gets missed through perceived knowledge of the rules.
Just looked myself and you are right Nigel. However I think it refers to firefights within woods and buildings, not into woods and buildings from outside. Is that right Martin?

Good noticing .
It refers to assaults but is certainly not clear enough.
I suggest we all just cross that it out and I will amend the master copy. Sorry.
PBI is a very large set of rules though.

Thanks Martin. Of course it means assaults. That's obvious now you've said it!! 😀

The map of a "typical" table on p128 has an Objective at the rear too far back in Row 3 not in Row 5 ? As this  one is missing? Objectives in Rows 4 and 6 are correct!

Not an issue Miles.
It is not a typical table at all. Instead it is a quick set up table.

It is a design for a quick set up.
It was designed so that players did not need to worry about choosing and positioning objectives and scenery.

Therefore there is no row 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.
The direction of play is decided by the highest dice scorer.
Therefore, the row numbers can be any of 4 directions chosen.

Hope that helps make quick set up clearer?

Ahhhh that does make sense, just like the "old days" ?
Had some good games with that approach? Turn up and play !
