Maybe they should be paying you royalties, Martin?

I'm fairly sure Sean Bean is starring in a Robin Hood project...I imagine as the Sheriff.

I think Robin Hood will be a lot of fun.

The project is still a way off, but rough ideas and chat can be bandied about with no harm (?)

I foresee some minor problems with gamers. They can all be overcome;  for most gamers.

1. Being upset at the thought of a player actively attacking poor folk. A tricky one.
2. Wanting historical accuracy above that provided by the game. The figures will be based on historical  uniforms. The range might not cover full armies of the era.  e.g I don't think mounted troops would be using lances against  outlaws or wear full regalia, flags etc.
3. Reluctance to building a force for just this one game. Maybe find some options in basing etc so that existing collections can be used. Disregard players who only have one mat?
4. The usual nonsense about "I am unable to play on a grid". No point pandering to that.
5. Copyright. Not a problem, unless we use names from recent films. No Moorish member of the outlaw gang.
6. Size of forces. I think similar to Vietnam. 30 for the sheriff, 40 for the outlaws/civilians.  Total 70 figures.  Based in groups/bases as per VIETNAM.

All sounds reasonable Martin.

A character pack or two possibly?

Regarding soldiers attacking poor folk...such things just motivate you to win the game even more 😁

The word game is key. As its a shared experience between friends for their mutual enjoyment.

People can tend to get too concerned about how a game of toy soldiers is going.

If you lose, suggest swapping aides and play again is my advice.

And if you really don't enjoy it, take up another hobby. No one will be offended.

You might get over point 3 by making the range/rules more general. So they could include European wars of the 1150-1250 era and/or the crusades of that time. This would bring in the Richard the Lionhearted/Saladin scenarios, the wars of King John, the wars between Henry II and his four sons and so on. That way the Robin Hood stuff could be part of the figure range and rules. It could lead to two rulesets in one rulebook, like the pirate raid game and sea game in Pieces of Eight.

Good words from John and Sean.
The Robin Hood project will be most enjoyable I hope.

There are many TV and movie interpretations of this book to help inspirational thinking..
I am tempted  to veer toward Flynn/ Rathbone and away from Costner/Greene/Disney/hooded man?.

I would love that Martin.

An Errol Flyn, Basil Rathbone character pack would be wonderful.

Men in tights  ??? We seem to have gone through that again with those ridiculous skinny jeans. Thank goodness young men in the Netherlands are starting to wear looser jeans and cargo trousers again.

Characters will be there.
Maybe include some cloaked crusaders?

Outlaw  (https://www.audible.co.uk/pd/B005UFEB28?source_code=ASSOR150021921000V)

I've mentioned this before, but as there seems to be a  bit of traction with Robin Hood, I'll mention it again.

This is the Audible link ,as I know a few people like to listen audio books whilst painting.

A very good series set in Sherwood Forest.

The actual books can be found here

In paperback (https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Outlaw-Chronicles-9-book-series/dp/B074C55CTL)
