Title: Stalingrad table
Post by: Pablo on February 24, 2025, 07:14:39 AM
Hello!

I'm thinking about making a new table to play a battle set in Stalingrad, and I'd like to hear your opinion on how to modify the rules when selecting and placing different types of terrain.

For now, I was thinking that all the scenery pieces players bring should be buildings, and I would remove the rule that they must be placed on a road so that the two roads placed on the table represent a couple of city streets.

Do you have any other ideas?  ::)

See The Mill edition 16 (free on the PP website) for my ideas on alternative terrain set ups.

Thank you all for your ideas!

I hadn't seen the ideas you included in The Mill Edition 16, John. Thanks for pointing me to it. In your idea for the city boards, do the building tiles still go on top of the roads?

I'm also taking the opportunity to share some photos of what I'm working on for the table. As I make more progress, I'll keep uploading more photos.

Buildings should "tab' roads if possible, but I think you can be flexible about that if it helps to create your scenario.

You  have captured the battle terrain well.
Are you going to add a very tall factory chimney?

Pablo, very impressive table indeed. It great doing a table with loads of buildings on it ?
To answer your question about how to deal with the Buildings "Tabbing" the roads ?
It is trail and error ?
First you lay your table how you would like to.
Now go into the rules of making your table.
12 scenery Templates. 20 Partial squares.
So lay out your 6 building templates that must be touching the road.
See what is left ?
Then play about with the meanings of the template types.
Open, Partial and Closed - Difficult Squares.
Now what have you got left and match up your templates to these categories then lay them down, as per rules.
As Martin said some time ago, you can substitute templates example wood, is Closed/difficult square. This can now become a Warehouse complex? Hill template with a couple of Partials on it could become the yard to that warehouse, pallets, storage boxes etc.
Martin introduced Scattered Buildings template to AK 47 recently so you can have Shanty town, this is the same sort of template as the Hill with Partials ? You can move through it reasonably easily with some cover but you can't see through it and beyond just into to it.
Just a brief introduction into how to make a busy table but still keep within the rules of the game ?
2023 Colours I took my "Factory game" table, which is very busy, but does just stay in the table layout/setup.
I will dig the map out so you can see how I done it ?
