Title: Binding up the PBI books
Post by: martin goddard on January 15, 2025, 11:36:02 AM
I see that some folk have used print on demand for their 2 PBI books.
Are you happy with the result? Cost and quality wise.
Luckily, I have a spiral binder machine so am doing it that way.
I am happy with the result.

AK will probably go straight into print and PDF because it is one book and should have better sales than PBI (?)

I'm happy with the result. The cost was a one off and more expensive I imagine than a printed copy from yourself judging by previous rule books. I went for the colour version which bumped the price up to nearly £30, but I'm glad I've done it and will donate it to my clubs rules library when the official version is released.

If I had my own spiral binder, I'd have done it that way.

I have had the rules printed in colour. I'm not a fan of spiral binding and so I went for perfect bound. The cost of the hardback was only 10% more than a paperback and so I treated myself. Doxprint did it and I am very pleased with the result.
As for the Architect book I haven't decided yet whether I need it printed or not. At the moment I am printing off the relevant page for whichever army I am using along with my army list. The print out and the list will stay in the soldier box with the company. If I do get the Architect book printed it will probably be paperback or spiral or bought from PP.

Was it a similar price, John?

I hadn't thought of doing this way.
Like you say it's upwards to £30

The price of the rules (129 pages) was £42 hardback, £38 paperback and £24 (I think) spiral. These prices are approximate and include postage. Two day turn around from Doxprint. They have other options. The Architect book would be slightly cheaper as it is 111 pages. The above costs were for colour. B & W is cheaper. If you go onto the Doxprint website you can cost up all the options on their ready reckoner.

Interesting that perfect bound is more expensive than spiral bound...but I don't know much about book printing!

Had mine printed at Doxdirect.  26.49 euros for the rule book spiral bound, included the playsheet and battle sheet.  Agree with you John, I can print the architect as needed and then put the list in the box with the figures and tanks.

Thank you Martin for the .pdf.

martin :)

I'm in a bit of a bind as to what to do here.

Spiral ones get me in a bit of a twist.
