I am enjoying watching Rogue Heroes.
It is now on series 2 (not season 2).
My comments here are of no great importance but as with all gamers I like to demonstrate my brilliance and knowledge about everything in military films.
1. The Pz IV were excellent.
2. Small arms and vehicles excellent (landing craft, gliders).
3. Uniforms excellent.
4.Boats excellent.
5.Sneering/molesting German officer, superb.
I think it would be oafish to pick on any tiny detail errors. Those buttons.....
I particularly like Dominic West's character.

Ben and I finished the 2nd series on Friday night (I player), very enjoyable but preferred the 1st series. Look forward to the 3rd season in 2026?

Haven't watched any of it yet, but have just finished Ben McIntyre's book of the same title. It was very informative and the best book I have read on the subject. The contrast between the desert fighting, the Italian front and the NW Europe front was well brought out. Also the opposition to the SAS from some of the traditionalists in the army was well documented. It also dealt with a few SAS "facts" that are, in truth, myths. One was about the SAS badge.

Weren't they originally supposed to be flames, that ended up as wings?

Wrong Sean. Partly right Simon. The badge was and, as far as I am aware remains, Excalibur in flames. However it is often mistakenly thought to be a winged dagger. Somehow the flames look more like wings than flames.

The cloth cap badge of the SAS. In an effort to consolidate the identity of his new unit, Colonel Stirling privately arranged for this insignia to be made up by a Cairo tailor. The cap badge was originally designed as a flaming 'sword of Damocles' but ended up as a winged dagger. The motto 'Who Dares Wins' summed up Stirling's original SAS concept. :)

I was quoting from Ben McIntyre's book which I take to be the best informed as he had access to the SAS files. You are right Miles that it was designed by David Stirling and knocked up by a Cairo tailor. I think the Sword of Damocles was suggested but Excalibur was preferred as the Sword of Damocles might be tempting fate.
Either way the winged dagger (rightly or wrongly) has been adopted by the general public.
